They do tie in, yes. This is the second film in a shared Godzilla/King Kong universe.

They're casting Godzilla 2 right now. So, that is happening. Gareth is not directing that. All of this is supposed to culminate in at least one Godzilla v Kong movie, though. That's the plan. But I have no idea if Gareth is going to direct that mash-up.
