I was at the beer store a few months back and some rube behind the counter was losing her shit about obamacare and how she hated the gov't because they were forcing her to get health care. 1) she probably needs it more than anybody becasue she was super overweight and smelled like death and 2) its not true as to where we live.
You can waive the fee here where I live with the reason "its too expensive" .

I did it for 2 years. Never once penalized or forced to do anything.

HMO? PPO? Never had a bad experience with them myself, but maybe they are a different beast in your neck of the woods.

For my last couple employers in my area, the choice has been Kaiser of some variety vs. Blue Cross. Kaiser seems to be less out of pocket, and easier to coordinate as they try to be a one-stop shop.
