He was totally unknown in the public eye until trainspotting and even that was small level indie noteriety everywhere else. (Trainspotting was a huge hit in the U.K. And Ireland).
Who wasn't excited for A Life Less Ordinary when it came out?

I had that soundtrack. I can't remember that film though. He falls out of a car at one point right?
Honestly can't remember too much about the movie, but I remember being real excited for it coming out.

For what it's worth I'm not happy about Laura Dern being in this, I can't think of a single performance she's given that's made me think 'Wow - horse face can really act!'

Same. She's just sort of there to give reaction shots.

What's that test about female characters in movies?
I wonder does it apply to her

Before I finished reading your entire post I want to try and do this. I can't name 10 but I bet I can name a few. Here we go, off the top, without looking anything up, movies he made before TPM:

Velvet Goldmine
The Pillow Book
Trainspotting
Being Human
Emma
Little Voice

That's 6! I can name six movies that I knew him from before I saw him in The Phantom Menace. And, yes, before you ask, I have seen all six of these films I've listed. And the only one I saw AFTER TPM was The Pillow Book.

Okay, I'm gonna go back and read the rest of your post and the thread now.

My first ever twitter poll. Give it a vote. If you're not sure what it is, reports from the Disney shareholders conference said that Luke has dialogue in the footage shown asking 'who are you?' we don't know but assume he's sayin it to Rey. Nothing gets 'leaked' by accident. Disney ok'd all that guys tweets from that conference. But as with TFA a lot of the footage was misleading and some even didn't even make it into the film. So that's what my poll is about. Give it a spin

Click bait bullshit. Is it possibly true? Sure! But any idiot could have come up with that based on what we've already heard. There will be a planet. And a lot of people. And "something that looks like a newly designed x-wing".... hmmmm... do you think it COULD BE THE NEWLY DESIGNED X-WING THAT WE ALREADY KNOW IS IN THE MOVIE?!

Cool.

The floating orbs orbs of light around Rey are also in clone wars when Yoda goes to moraband. The force guiding him. And they surround Ezra leading him to yodas apparition in the temple.

I'm guessing the shot with Rey surrounded by the orbs is probably when we'll see Yoda appear.

The report I heard today isn't the one in that link above.

There's a few shots of Rey training in the island. One has her in a beehive hut or a cave and little orbs of light are floating around her. Another has her putting her finger tips on the ground and pebbles and dirt all levitating around her hand. Another has her training with a lightsaber while standing on a cliff edge while luke looks down on her from further up.

All in here

Also, did you guys ever think that shot in TFA of the Knights of Ren was a foreshadow to that supposed battle we will see on the cliffs with Rey, Luke, and them?

I wanna say it has to be. Based on the reports of what was filmed here up in Donegal. It looks and sounds exactly like it. But those reports have luke making short work of the knights of ren and kylo fighting Rey and she falls off the cliff and he runs when luke confronts him.
But let's see.

The other rumour has luke staying on the island for the whole film. And possibly Rey. So we get loads of that without having to show much but it let's all the other story elements have a ton of breathing room too.

That's interesting and encouraging. Where can they go with the stories though? Saga or stand alones?

I'm not saying it isn't accurate. But it's so goddamn vague that who cares? My point is, that even if the person hasn't seen the images, they have a better than 50% chance of being right if they've ever seen A) a trailer, B) a Star Wars trailer, C) have even a passing idea of the rumors/images that have been floating around the internet for a year now. I hate shit like that.
