Re: Hummus vs. Wishlist vs. MFC vs. Faithfull (eliminate 3)
I have actually begun to come around a lot on Wishlist - I used to really dislike it, but now I think its quite pretty (but still dislike the fade). Hummus is nothing much. MFC is a cool tune that I always enjoy. But yeah, Faithfull takes this one.

Even if Faithfull is the best song, I decided to change my vote to MFC, because I think it's a fantastic song that deserves better.

Hummus is a jaunty ending to the record, a fitting ending to the first PJ record that felt like it left you with a smile, or at least a sigh of relief, but it's slight compared to some of these other songs (by definition). MFC is probably my least favorite song on the record, but that speaks more to Yield's strengths than any problem with the song.
I love Wishlist, particularly the studio version. There's an intimacy and a borderline audaciousness in the song (and Ed's) steadfast willingness not to go big, especially for a band that was basically known for doing everything Big in its early years. But I'm going with the tide and picking Faithfull. An exciting musical backing with an interesting lyric by Ed. I love the way the song, kind of like Evolution, mocks the triteness of its pop chorus while also reveling in it.

Faithfull, because I believe in us, "The Faithfull."

Faithfull for sure, but I've always loved MFC and Wishlist may have grown on me more than any PJ song ever has. It used to be my least favorite PJ song, then the last three albums happened, and it became middle of the pack! Seriously though, I used to hate it and now I like it quite a lot. I must have gotten old.

MFC is utterly bland, and one of the low points of Yield.
I enjoy Wishlist a lot, but Faithfull is astoundingly good.

It's top 25, absolutely. But I'm not sure it's top 10. And I know it isn't top 5. So, it's definitely not the best. But goddamn it sure is a fantastic little number that I never tire of hearing.guestT wrote:it's def the best pj songBirds in Hell wrote:Faithfull is maybe the best Pearl Jam song.

Me too. I actually really like most of the lyrics to MFC. "They said timing was everything, made him want to everywhere, there's a lot to be said for nowhere." I wish Ed would fucking say "spilled like wine" live. I love that line in the studio version.bodysnatcher wrote:i really enjoy the line "there's a lot to be said for nowhere"theplatypus wrote:The "MFC" chorus is kind of annoying. I never noticed the faint sound of what sounds like a digital tape loop rewinding / coming unwound around the 1:14 mark in MFC

How about the ghost drums at the start of "Swallowed Whole"
