I wonder if they've connected on the phone in recent weeks. Something tells me that may have happened, I dunno. There's just gotta be a lot for them to talk about. Mostly on Dave's part, I'm sure he needs that healing moment. I wonder if Ed and Jeff may have had a "fuck, what did we do? We could have handled that whole thing better" with Dave going "yeah, I'm glad you guys now feel regret, but I'm the one living with the decision, you fuckers." Can someone do a Some Kind of Monsters thingy on this? This could easily be a whole part 2 of PJ20.

All that said, it's a band situation. You can be a great player, but you're job is just as much understanding that you've got to fit in with the others and knowing the power dynamics. But shit, they were all in their 20s back then.

I'm sure the other drummers' situation is pretty easy. Krusen is already in, but they haven't seen each other in forever, so that will be the next awkward one after Dave A. Jack is still buds w/ Ed and Matt Chamberlain is cool w/ Matt and Soundgarden.

Man, they better setup some 'get to know you time' before the ceremony, or it can be super strange doing that whole deal in front of everyone. See: Blondie, Talking Heads, Van Halen, GnR, etc, etc, etc.

I hope it is cathartic, for them and for all of us. But I also hope it isn't ugly like some of others noted above. I've always held PJ as the anti-rock story where the typical cliched rock n roll drama doesn't occur.
They were a really rare breed specially back then in terms of the drama stuff. They had a really intense thing going on but nobody talked with the press or made comments about Mike´s durg habits even in the 2000´s. They nailed all that stuff, really..

That's what sucks - they really haven't told us jack shit in regard to inside info over the years. Pretty impressive they've been able to keep it that close to the vest.

Which is probably a huge contributing reason they are still together as a band. Once you hear a band's dirty laundry aired out, there's no putting that genie back in the bottle, and then become especially toxic situations.

I've always wondered if Dave A being a primary source and the only band member to be interviewed for Five Against One rankled the band a lot. They seem to guard their privacy pretty closely and I can't imagine that didn't bother them.

The best part about Dave A going is if the rest of the band are complete assholes to him still, we're sure to hear all about it on Facebook within a couple of hours of the ceremony wrapping

They should totally pretend that he's not there.

Dave A: "So what's happenin' guys?"
Ed: "Did somebody hear something?"

Yeah I agree. The band could barely bring themselves to talk about anything personal in their own PJ20 documentary. If someone else airs out some laundry, I can't imagine members of the band taking it well. Especially since they were the core group and Dave A was a later member. I can see that ruffling feathers for sure... the new guy coming in and thinking he has the right to say things

Maybe all the drummers will perform a song together as a band:

Dave Krusen: Vocals
Matt Chamberlain: Lead Guitar
Matt Cameron: Rhythm Guitar
Jack Irons: Bass
Dave A: Drums

And then they will achieve worldwide fame; which prompts Dave K to experience an identity crisis and divorce; who copes with it via scapegoating onto Dave A, because since Dave A is not insecure, it must mean that he is a sellout. Then Matt Cameron will take Dave A to breakfast and tell him he is out of the band.

Bummer, but I can understand why he wouldn't make a big effort to be there if he had prior commitments; he was only in the band for a few months and never recorded any studio material.

FWIW - Abbruzzese isn't out, at least not that anyone knows. The earlier story was a hoax.

Im not counting on an Abbruzzese reunion. At least not playing. Pearl Jam is really good at letting amazing opportunities pass these days.

I mean, the dude played barely a dozen shows with them. I actually think they went overboard in mentioning him in that note. He was a fill-in for a few weeks, that's it, I'm pretty certain he sees it the same way.

I was just thinking today, as much as Dave A seems like a very personable and cool guy, and as good a drummer as he is, it was the right decision. I read Tom Petty's biography recently and their drummer, Stan Lynch, was this really outspoken loudmouth and opinionated guy. The rest of the band was very introverted and non-confrontational. He was just an oddball of that group personality wise. It was very toxic and poisonous and Petty just didn't have the skills to cope w/ a personality like that. He wanted to fire him for a really long time, but was too non-confrontational and put it off. It was horrible for the band as the 80s dragged on and into the early 90s. They were clearly headed for a break up and everyone in the band was miserable and having drug problems and stuff. And most importantly, it wasn't working musically because of these differences. It worked well on the early albums, but Petty was more dictatorial in that later era and he wanted the drums how we wanted it, and Stan Lynch was miserable trying to follow the leader, and he basically got booted from the drum stool without being officially out of the band. That's the worst thing, when it nearly killed the musical quality.

93-94 was PJ at a breakdown and implosion point. They were fragile, and Ed probably just did not have the personality and coping ability to handle an outspoken guy like that. He probably needed a therapist in the band, and I think Jack Irons served that role. Dave A just wasn't the guy who they needed at that point, it was probably break up or move on without him. And probably just didn't have the maturity to handle a guy like that when they felt like things were too high pressure to start with. I can't imagine Dave A going along with the middle-era, which is an era most of us love. I don't think he'd be down with it musically, commercially, or anything. Too bad, for the guy, I hope he's been okay all these years.
