I used to be all 'Sleight of Hand' is the best ever but it's really actually not that interesting

Parting Ways is a much better song

I love Parting Ways and Gods Dice both. But this is Sleight of Hand. The song is so unlike them and so clearly from this band at the same time. These are some of Eddie's finest lyrics on the record, and probably up there with any lyric he's ever done. It's great when you see a band write a song that pulls against every instinct they have and somehow find something that stands toe to toe with any song they've ever done, and that's Sleight of Hand when it comes to PJ.

:haha:

Gods' Dice and Parting Ways are WAY out of their depth here. This is stupid.

Sleight of Hand and it's not even sort of close.

Though, I almost want to vote for Gods' Dice just because I'm pretty sure this is the first time in RM history that Stip has spelled it correctly. So, really, Stip is the winner here.

Wrong. Only in that it is their best song. Period.

This sounds about right. I might put it 3rd or 5th too though. Not sure. Somewhere in there.

1. Go
2. Brain of J.
3. Hail, Hail
4. Sleight of Hand
Respectable and hard to be angry at that fine list right there. I think I'd have to go with something like...
1. In My Tree
2. Tremor Christ
3. Black
4. Sleight of Hand

Something like that. But In the Moonlight, No Way, Help Help, Do the Evolution and Hard to Imagine would all be up there too. I also struggle with Black. Like, do I have it so high because it's really that good? Or is it just pure nostalgia? I think I just really love that song, no matter how overwrought it feels know that I'm not 13. Annie Clark's cover is outstanding. So... I feel like I really love it. But maybe I just love it the way a 13 year old loves things. Who can say? Anyway...

I must say I am not a big fan of Black anymore. I think it's probably the weakest song on Ten.

I just can't shake it. In my head, I feel like I'm over it but then every time I hear it... man! Yeah, I really love it, I think. But I totally understand why a person wouldn't.

I like Black, but I find it hard to listen to early versions of it. Ed is just way too much. I feel like in the mid to late 90s he figured out how to sing it by keeping it as emotional while not seeming so overwrought.

I get that. Makes sense. I listen to studio versions of things, usually. So I can't really comment. In these tournaments/discussions I'm always talking about studio versions of songs.
