I think you completely misread the film, buddy.dimejinky99 wrote:durdencommatyler wrote:Wow. We saw totally different films.dimejinky99 wrote:I didn't like what I was thinking after seeing Get Out. Or how it made me feel.
I'm hearing it's meant to have an element of satire. That passed me by totally.
Suffice e to say you couldn't make that film but from the opposite perspective and have it be lauded and getting all these rave reviews.
Apart from all that it's built in weirdness just didn't really work. Hammered home far too much. Possibly in the name of satire. That's maybe what I was missing. It made heavy work of its premise when it should have either been much more subtle or really gone at it full tilt instead of suggesting for so long then going over the top with the conclusion.
It's uncomfortable viewing and that's the point but it's not making the point it's trying to.
It plays on a load of bad cultural stereotypes on all fronts.
Then in the last scene a bad stereotype saves the day. was this a commentary?
Cos I don't think it was. I just think the whole thing was suggesting something else completely.
What movies are you watching?

Re: What movies are you watching?
I probably am. But in another way maybe not. Films being made to speak for something happening in their time renders them kinda obsolete really quickly. Unless they're true masterpieces. Which this isn't.durdencommatyler wrote:I think you completely misread the film, buddy.dimejinky99 wrote:durdencommatyler wrote:Wow. If it does do something well it has you and me and presumably others seeing it two totally different ways. That's a difficult trick to pull off convincingly in any kind art.

Kong.
So this is basically a setup for a Godzilla vs Kong movie. This entire feature is made because the studio wants a share universe with Godzilla right?
Its a shame because it could have been a cool movie if it was handled right...this director doesnt know what to do with the characters, with the monkey, with the island...

LV, have you seen Metalhead? I've seen it a few times now and there's some really touching moments.

Going to finally sit down and watch the Godfather movies next month.
Started It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World last night. I say started because at the time I didn't know it was over 2 and a half hours long and my son has a bed time. Man, they couldn't make a movie like this now at all. It's got a huge cast, a long run time, it's a comedy, the effects are practical...jeez.

Leave your brain at the door.
Actually leave it at home. Even better ship it to Australia. Otherwise You'll have a few weeks headache wondering how and why Samuel Jackson still gets cast in films. doing exactly the same thing he does in every single film he's in.
Token black guy needs to die in one of these films.

John Wick Chapter 2. First 15 minutes are the best. It's amazing how Keanu hasn't improved at acting even a little bit in 30 years. I'm not mad. He's too likable to be mad at. Anyway, this movie is exactly what you think it's going to be. Super dumb. Really fun.

Silence.
It was hard...its very very slow. I eventually liked it, and Garfield is terrific but its a little bit hard to see.

I felt the same. Keanu's lack of acting ability really is incredible. No improvement in the slightest for decades, but it's Keanu so its ok.daft twat wrote:John Wick Chapter 2. Keanu is like a decent fast-food place. It's not very good, but at least it's always the same.

Some Kind Of Monster.
That was fun...what a mess those guys were around that time....and the sessions are pretty weird too, but i liked how the whole thing is approached, how nasty things get and how weird Lars is.
