Where Binaural is in the catalog changes, but I can't imagine it going below #2 or #3 in their discography; personally, I just think there's too many of their greatest songs in one place to consider it any differently.

strat and I had this conversation yesterday. I think it is pertinent to this convo too.

Its number 1 in my book by a light year.
 I only have Vitalogy ahead of Binaural.
That'll change.
I don't know about that. Vitalogy is pretty perfect. But Binaural used to sit near the bottom of the pile for me and it has grown in esteem like crazy over the last 10 years, so I guess anything is possible. That being said, I don't think Binaural can quite get to where I would rank Vitalogy in relation to all other bands. I think Vitalogy is an all time great record that holds its own with any great album by any band. Though I love Binaural, I'm not sure I'll ever feel that way about it.

Yeah, Vitalogy is my second favorite album of all time. By any/all artist(s). I can't imagine Pearl Jam will ever surpass that one, for me.

Vitalogy might be my least favorite pre-PRAMG PJ album. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I thought RA was your favorite PJ album?

#2. It used to be in third but I just recently promoted it above Ten.

So good!

I think I'd put NAIS in my top three with Sleight of Hand and Insignificance. But Rival would be a close fourth.
Sometimes I wonder if Binaural will ever replace No Code as my favorite PJ album. It and it's outtakes are all so good.
Have you listened to the Deluxe version available on this site? It's sort of a game changer.
Yup, it's excellent. Love the Blake mixes. I think it's the final product vs what could have been that keeps it from that top spot. I don't want to get into a retracking debate or anything, but if Sad and Fatal make Binaural, it would probably be #1.

Yea. Minus the one-two punch of Parting Ways and Education at the end (two of my least favorite PJ songs), I think the Deluxe version takes the album to another level entirely. This run is a monster:

08 Light Years
09 Of The Girl
10 Thin Air
11 Nothing As It Seems
12 Fatal
13 Sleight Of Hand

I always felt like that original retracking is way better in theory than in practice, at least for me. Binaural just feels like it's building to something throughout; that second half of the record is intense, and probably a better run of music than anything the band had done prior.

:haha: :haha: Life Wasted sucks. WWS is pure shit. Comatose is below average, but tolerable. I know you love these three, stip, but I'll sure as shit never understand why.

The earlier, withdrawn Binaural tracklisting flows so much better to me, I can't listen to the album any other way.

Oh I know, and I've read it. I'll still never get it.

p.s. I still love ya, stip. I'm glad we all have varying opinions, it's what makes talking about PJ 15 years after their prime still interesting.

That run does get more shit than I think it deserves. None of them are perfect, but it's a solid start. The second half of that record is where it runs into the ditch.

I really love the run of songs Marker-Comeback. Severed Hand is okay too, I guess.
