Marker is a pretty great song. Big Wave is a fun middle tier song. Fuck WWS.

Re: World Wide Suicide vs. Marker in the Sand vs. Big Wave
Big Wave is the kind of song that should have been a b-side. I don't mind it (and I actually like the demo version that circulated a few years back), but it doesn't belong on an album proper.
Marker is a bit wordier than it has to be, and kind of feels like three separate songs (verse/chorus/bridge) stitched together. The song needs a bit more warmth (this would have been a great companion piece on Yield alongside Given to Fly), but it's a good one. Interesting verses, and a gorgeous chorus and outro that is not flattered by the S/T production.
I've waxed on and on about World Wide Suicide. I will always remember my first listen and how this brought me roaring back to a band I was starting to lose a little faith in. After a claustrophobic and then lifeless set of albums this song just felt alive. It had all the vitriol I wanted from Riot Act and didn't get, had a dirty groove, a passionate vocal, tremendous bridge with a fantastic scream leading into the final verse, lyrics that just inch up to on the nose but land right in front of it. This was a song from a band that found the fire it had lost, and was going to take a stand against the end of the world. I don't know if it's top 5 anymore, but it's still a favorite, and easily gets my vote.

Marker. But Big Wave is a close, close second. WWS is fine but it can't compete with these other two.

Re: World Wide Suicide vs. Marker in the Sand vs. Big Wave
MITS is one of the most over-rated songs on RM. The verse is decent. The chorus is awful
Big Wave is fun enough. I like the demo better. I wish the whole song were based on the outro/bridge.
WWS is an awesome song. Seeing them do it live on SNL, with Matt on the backing vox, really sold it for me.

Big Wave should never be a b side shut the fuck up stip.
WWS though. Great song. Could go either way though.

WWS - frankensong with a terrible chorus
Big Wave - average, but fairly grating thanks to Ed
Marker - one of the best post Riot Act tunes. Easily wins here.

Normally I'd vote for Marker here, but fuck it, I'm hopping on the Big Wave.

I did but i love big wave so much. I remember a review of the album stated about this song something to the effect of "4 headed monster" that was stone and mike.tragabigzanda wrote:No, so vote for WWS.

"Marker in the Sand" is my favorite song on S/T, my favorite song from the last three records, and the chorus is my favorite part.

It's not my personal favorite of the last three records. But I totally agree on the other two points.Kevin Davis wrote:"Marker in the Sand" is my favorite song on S/T, my favorite song from the last three records, and the chorus is my favorite part.
