Army Reserve is solid. I really like it. Won't be mad if it wins. But I'm totally voting for Severed Hand.

Re: Army Reserve vs. Inside Job vs. Severed Hand
Of all the matches this is probably the only one where i don't feel strongly about any of them.
Army Reserve would have been a great fit on Binaural, but the atmosphere it is trying to create is not served by the smack in the face production of S/T.
I really like the chorus but this is another song where the production doesn't help it. It needs to feel a bit fuller than it does. It's my favorite of the bunch, but it's hard not to compare it to so many of the great similar songs in the catalog, and it just ends up sounding a tad anemic. I don't think it's a problem with the song, rather the way they captured it for the record.
Inside job has some nice moments, and I can give some of the lyrics a pass, but it drags on a bit too long, and the ending doesn't feel climactic enough to justify the build. I do actually like the 'let me run into the rain' part until the end.
Severed Hand.

Re: Army Reserve vs. Inside Job vs. Severed Hand
Army Reserve, despite the disjointed feeling of the transition into the chorus (that happens all the time in these last three records, where a song gets let down either by the quality of a chorus or the transition stopping the momentum of the song in its tracks). All the individual pieces are pretty great.
I'm not a big fan of Inside Job, but it's not the album lowlight. The lyrics are fairly bad, but there's quite a few clunkers on these records. I think it's the melodrama and stilted epicness of the music and Ed's bizarre vocal approach that sink it for me.
Severed Hand is okay. I like it while it's on and immediately forget it when it's done.

Re: Army Reserve vs. Inside Job vs. Severed Hand
Army Reserve is one of the best songs this band has ever done.
Inside Job isn't as bad as many people say, but it's also not great. Sort of lower-tier, but not awful.
Severed Hand is awesome, and I'm surprised it has so many detractors. I'd say it's got one of the best bridges in the whole catalog. But it's no Army Reserve.

Army Reserve is a very good song. Severed Hand is an OK song. Inside Job is a bad song.

The outro jam to Army Reserve is the best part of S/T.

Army Reserve is definitely the most interesting musically, but I have an irrational love for Severed Hand. Love how they played the shit out of this on the '06 tour.
