She makes really stylish movies that have beautiful cinematography and great music but communicate nothing, leave me feeling empty, grasping at the air where those themes and ideas and emotions would be. It's like she watched so many nouvelle vague-era films but took away all the wrong things from them. "Hate" is a strong word and I shouldn't have used it, it's more like a strong exasperation with how great her movies could be-- but they do say "judge the movie you saw, not the movie you wanted to see", and in that regard I find her work vapid and insipid... for the most part. I like a lot of things about "Lost in Translation", actually.

Obviously, I disagree. But I can see where you're coming from. Were I more versed in nouvell vague, perhaps I'd be able to defend my position better. Perhaps I like her more because I'm not as exposed in so many other film styles/genres.

What I meant was I was getting myself lost thinking about all the things I thought these movies could be, instead of solely on what's on the screen. If I disregard my expectations and stop grasping at things that aren't there, I still think they're pretty weak.
