Re: Rearviewmirror vs. Go
It's really close but in the end I think RVM is the better song. Much better lyrics, and I prefer the narrative catharsis of RVm to the more primal howl of Go. Plus the final moments of RVM are maybe the third best climax in the catalog behind Porch and Alive.
Both have fantastic beginnings that let you know right off the bat you're going for a ride.
Again, it's almost like who cares. All the songs that are up today deserve to win the whole things.

Re: Rearviewmirror vs. Go
In 93 I would have voted for RVM. I've sought Go out more than RVM for prbably 20 years. It was the first song I ever saw them play live and it fucking rocks.

Re: Rearviewmirror vs. Go
My two favorite Vs songs. I like them about equally, so this will take some mulling over. And it's not even close

Re: Rearviewmirror vs. Go
I voted for RVM but it WAS close! And this was just a recent development--before today, I might have clicked RVM and not thought about it, but I was just listening to a 2000 bootleg and heard a version of Go that was just cool and unlike no version I've ever heard before (read about my journey in this thread, which I think just Jorge has read). But I still voted for RVM because I love the space-rock sort-of stuff they've done with the breakdown at times (even though, as the years went on, Ed fucks up the timing of the song's conclusion even more and more). And I still think it sounds amazing on the record; if the baby wasn't sleeping, I'd throw it on right now just to hear the opening chords.

Re: Rearviewmirror vs. Go
My initial gut instinct was RVM, so I'll go with that.

I voted for Go, though I probably like both of these a bit less than most of you.

Re: Rearviewmirror vs. Go
Five years ago this would have been an easy vote for Rearviewmirror. But Go is just phenomenal; that moment coming out of Mike's solo is particular fantastic. It's a great moment for the band where they manage to sound entirely unhinged and extraordinarily tight simultaneously.
And that Dublin version of 'Go' was one of my favorite things I've heard. The outro was great, but I thought the meat of the song had a propulsion that's sometimes missing on the wrong night.
