Absolutely and this is the best time to do it. I could ramble on and on about what I want more form pearl jam. I could also go on and on about what I want less. But its too easy to get wrapped up in that and its much nicer to just admit the impact theyve had on my life and how Ill always look forward to new pearl jam. All the ups and downs and mistakes - they are still fucking pearl jam. My band. The band I turn to in bad times and good times
I just said this in some other thread but new albums, even at the best of times, only come along every few years. I like to just enjoy the moment and figure out what I want to stick around for the long haul later.
I'll still over analyze everything because that's part of the fun

don't worry about it, chap. you guys don't need to apologize for your perceptions, and certainly not to me. I only made the comment because it's difficult for me being about the only representative of gen-x here ...I know doug (and a couple others) is about my age, but he's much more mellow than me anyway - I told someone here awhile back that there's times I'd like to tell you guys to shut the fuck up because you didn't grow up when I did and don't know what you're talking about regarding the music of my generation, but I really can't ignore the level of intelligence all of you exhibit, and therefore can't really exclude your opinions, nor dismiss them as immature because I don't think I had that level of intellectual prowess in my 20s at all.
I wouldn't give you a hard time at all about what any of you have to say if I didn't appreciate your ability to articulate it well. really, I wish I was able to articulate what music of my 20s really did mean to me (or maybe to 'us' as a generation, but I don't have much of a consensus to draw from on that front) - back then, in the 90s especially, it was just different for me. it felt important and intense, and was about finally having an outlet musically that was representative of my 'generational' experience of the time - it just didn't exist before Pearl Jam and the rest of them of that era - I keep reminding myself, gen-x was gen-x because we were inconsequential in a lot of different ways - you guys aren't. I just want you (all) to be aware of your fortune at being this age... right now... with this amount of musical background to draw from, and the hindsight of why.
ugh, I simply can't make short, concise statements and convey what I think. - anyway - I'm cool with RMer's opinions, but imma still rag on you when I can.

I have no way of knowing if you're right on this score. But this one does, somehow, feel different. Maybe it'll be a train wreck. I don't know. I'm really looking forward to this thing.

Me too. But you're absolutely right. This is the honeymoon. This is the good time. And I'm going to embrace it. Because, honestly, it could be the last time. I hope not. But you just never know.
I haven't listened to this guy since Thursday. I'm trying not to over saturate myself with the actual new music that we have and will have. This album is probably the most realistic chance I've had to go into an album completely cold without any preconceived notions about what the music sounds like. This will also be the first Pearl Jam album to come out since I became a vinyl listener, so that should be fun.

Unfortunately, the PJ vinyl experience isn't all that different from the CD experience. BUT, there really is something to be said for listening to the album cold. I highly recommend it. If you're able to avoid a leak, I'd strongly recommend it. There's nothing like having the physical thing, the artwork, the lyrics (if any) the record, in you hand when you hear it the thing for the first time. I'm a sentimental ass, but I wouldn't trade that experience for anything.

I listened to MYM then immediately I listened to GSMF. It's amazing how thin and hollow Backspacer sounds in comparison. Even if the compression is high on MYM, it's WAY better than, way DEEPER than Backspacer. It sounds so much better back to back. Especially the low end.
Produciton aside: Eds voice is much fuller. its like he remembered to sing from his Gut instead of just the back of his throat....
Also, im totally dumping it all over this track. In the end it will probably be middle of the road PJ for me (which is saying a lot and not much at the same time) but for now it is totally hitting the G Spot. I will most likely burn out on it before the goddamn is released but will pick up again when placed within the context of LIghtning BOlt.

Its weird, I think I could probably go all the way until October without listening to this song again. I enjoyed it well enough but there is nothing compelling me to seek it out. I'm 93 percent sure I can abstain from new music for 3 more months. I am master of my domain.

I dont want to if I dont have to. I understand the pay off could be great but in the end I dont want to deprive myself of the joys of music from any of my favorite bands...
