I like both of these songs a lot (probably the two best on Binaural) and my vote is completely open to whoever makes the most persuasive argument

1. They sample a dog's growl to open the song and base the opening rhythm on it
2. One of the closest Matt has come to sounding like Jack
3. Those off-kilter layered Ed vocals
4. The lyrics (both of these songs are still incredibly relevant)
5. The looseness of the vocals and hearing Ed react to some of them as he pulls away from the mic
6. That piano. Ohhhh, that piano.
7. The jingle bells.

The stuttering riff during "Big guy, big eye, watching me..." is one of the most badass rock n' roll moments ever committed to tape. Plus Mike looked like a dark wizard when they debuted the song on Letterman.

yeah man, that part gives me chills every single time i listen to that song

Off the top of my head without putting much thought into, this is one of the very few songs – the only? – in the catalogue where Matt is clearly in the driver's seat, and takes this song where it needs to go. And it fucking rules. Ever since, it feels like he's just kinda keeping rhythm.

The song shift of the outro of Grievance never really grabbed me though. That's my only knock against it, personally.

I think these are both mid-tier. Rival is a little better than Grievance.

"Grievance" has a better ending. "Grievance" it is

How is Grievance losing to Rival? Grievance is one of their best songs, amazing arrangement, performance, writing, one of the most unique rock songs off all time. I like Rival, but just no, no.

I'm a Grievance voter, but I can dig it. Rival has one of the funnest guitar riffs I know.

The Snatch (as I call him) and Alexbigzander (as I call him) both made perfect, succinct cases for each song.

Tie still goes to Rival.
