Both strong songs that are throttled by the sterile atmosphere on Lightning Bolt. But Pendulum can make it work in a way that Swallowed Whole just can't. It gets my vote

Swallowed Whole is held back by shitty production choices but the solo soars and is worth it. The only moment of genuine release on LB.

Pendulum. I know a lot of folks here don't like it, but I think it's one of the better songs from the last two albums.

"Pendulum" is insipid. "Dark and moody" in the blandest possible way. I genuinely like "Swallowed Whole" a lot. I love the guitars when the song reaches its climax

The sound of silence after Future Days ends is a pretty great moment of release, too.

I posted this a long time ago, before I was really active on RM. I'm convinced that Pendulum was heavily inspired by this gem from Yo La Tengo. Check out 3:05 for a familiar lick:

I was listening to cropduster this morning and couldn't help but think that the

I thought I thought the world/turns out the world thought me

lyric would get savaged if it came out today

(I like the lyrics to cropduster and think its one of pearl jam's smarter songs, but a lot of PJ's song lyrics really live in that space where they work great if you like the surrounding song but fall apart if you don't. They're bound to the performance in a pretty significant way)

I like Pendulum. It's far from perfect, but I like it. Swallowed Whole is a bottom feeder.

When I first heard the album, Swallow Hole was my favorite but it has plummeted thanks to that dogshit production on the treble-thin guitars. It really goes up a notch after the solo, but I don't know, I guess Pendulum?

It's a great line.

great album

there's no way anyone in PJ even know who Yo La Tengo is

unless there's a member from the Ramones or Kiss in there that we never knew about

I could care less about these two songs, I'll have to listen to decide.
