I'm enjoying these podcasts for the most part. They seem to get stuck on certain points as you guys have mentioned. I'd like it to get a bit deeper but that's the PJ dork in me.

LAL'd to Vs afterwards and man that is a powerhouse of an album. Daughter, GG and RVM really stood out. What also struck me is there are some songs like GG and Rats that are just average songs but the performances take them to higher places. That outro of GG has some great interplay and all 5 of them are stellar.

I love this album.

That is the key to the "lesser" songs on Vs. The energy of the performances carries them all to another level so as to create a seamless listening experience.

Love the point the bass player from War on Drugs made about Vs. and how it was an absolute miracle that they wrote a lot of the songs through jamming. Also the points he made on Jeff as a bass player. Something that doesn't get talked about enough is the musicianship - it's like they were so big and so many other news-y things were happening (Ticketmaster) that people forgot these 5 dudes could play the shit out of stuff.

Stay hopeful guys.

1-Ten
2-Vs.
3-Vitalogy
4-No Code
5-Yield
6-Binaural, Riot Act, bootlegs, RVM, Lost Dogs
7-Avocado, Backspacer, Lightning Bolt

Six and seven are going to be shallow dives, my friend.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

It is refreshing to hear new people talk about the band's catalog outside of the RM echo chamber.

I checked out the Great Albums Vitalogy podcast that Hyden mentions in the Celebration Rock podcast. It's a 2 hour listen that has not much fact to add to the table but there's some opinion which is somewhat interesting. I'm also half way thru the VS one. Only if you have time to kill people.

I finished the Vitalogy episode, it was fun to listen to these guys talking about this album, the band and those days...I think i liked it more than the Vs episode though i loved how much they discussed Jeff´s powerful presence around that time in that one. I been into a huge PJ kick these days, listening to the studio albums and boots from that era...

I love PJ.

Should we make a conversation with rmers about their relationship with the band?

about halfway through, nice ep so far. just a couple of bros talking about my favorite pj album.

gets my dander up when they throw around terms like filler, but i can see where they're coming from.

I remember thinking that during the podcast, that although I enjoyed, I think there have been discussions here about the band that have been far more incisive and interesting, and I think the discussions here definitely are able to look at the early and middle years beyond the prism of "Eddie is tortured about fame," to see larger themes and things going on with the band.

Maybe talk about our favorite album/albums/eras and organize in some chronological way?

yeah, i was thinking it could be cool to hear how we get to know the band and the relationship we have with their music...we are all from different places and some of us came back from the 90s and some dont...so the approach is different.

Just finished the Yield one. They made an interesting point about BOB that we've danced around a lot. They said how if you look at BOB's larger career he makes bands sound "big" but with Pearl Jam it was almost the opposite - they termed it "giving in" to the vision of Pearl Jam.

I think that makes a lot of sense. Back in the 90's, Pearl Jam (especially Ed) were not comfortable sounding huge/mainstream/radio-friendly. They were much more preoccupied with their identity and how their sound was perceived by other bands.

Then when you get to Backspacer and Lightning Bolt, I think things flipped and the band was "giving in" to BOB's style and preferences.

So if you agree with this, BOB basically never changed over the years. It was the band's influence and directives about their sound that changed/evolved/evaporated.
