Retired NHL player Chris Chelios broke the news last night in an interview with 97.1 The Ticket’s Jeff Riger that Pearl Jam will be taking a one year break. Alternative Nation transcribed the quote when he was asked about Pearl Jam possibly closing out the Joe Lewis Arena.

“You know what, no, and I’ll be the first one to say that they had a meeting about a month ago, and decided they aren’t going to go on tour for at least a year. They’re going to take a break.”

Pearl Jam are set to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next month. Eddie Vedder has summer tour dates booked, and Soundgarden are working on a new album and have tour dates planned.

Indeed. I have every faith that they'll be back in 2018, though. They probably won't even announce anything themselves. The next big official news from Pearl Jam will be tour dates for summer 2018.

Im fine with them not touring and maybe thats what this is about. Chelios probably loves to get wasted at PJ shows and is sad about it as well.

A total break from the band and writing and recording? well im not shocked but i was really hoping they were inspired to start a new album.

Hopefully thats still the case. Its better than another fucking lightning dolt tour

otherwise bring on new SG and RNDM

it's a bit of a shame they aren't inspired enough by what's going on in the world to hit the studio. they must be seriously creatively dry.
