Oh, Perkins is great. But so many people just seem to ignore that the scene right before that final moment is a clinical, expository, uninteresting dissection of the film's preceding events that systematically explains away all nuance and subtlety in order to cater to dullards.

I suppose I can see what you're getting at. It certainly isn't enough to taint an otherwise extraordinary film, for me.

Yeah, if I were more passionate about the rest of the film, I'd probably agree (Bigger Than Life has a similar ending problem, but I still adore that film despite it). But while there are many elements of it I like (the falling-down-the-stairs sequence), I never felt very strongly about any of it. My relationship with Hitchcock is often a little bumpy.

It's #4! That's pretty high. I like Vertigo a lot. I just really love the top three.

I haven't seen your #2 or #3. I'll have to check those out. I have this weird thing with Hitchcock movies. I have to hear about one specifically several times in a row from various sources coincidentally before I watch the movie. That's why I've seen so few of them. I let the universe demand the next one.

The Trouble with Harry is his sleeper masterpiece. It's so quietly thoughtful and profound. No one seems to talk about it (Maybe because it's ostensibly a light comedy?). But I think it's a major work of art.

Probably fair to assume a level of recency bias with that one. We'll have to see how it ages and settles. But I'm pretty confident it'll remain in the top 25. And I really can't imagine it'll fall out of the top 10. But who knows!

I fucking loved that movie so much, though. I have no issues with where it's slotted right now. I just wonder how it'll age or hold up to repeated viewings.
