TC all the way here. Still can't get with the SoH fawning, but to each their own of course. And obv. a hell of a lot of people love that tune.

But then again, a hell of a lot of people listen to Coldplay too. That's the trouble - you can't trust people.

These are virtually equal. Both in my top 10. But I gave SOH the edge.

Sleight of Hand is fantastic, I love it. But not as much as Tremor Christ.

I love TC, and gave it my vote here, but I would never call it a "wonderfully dissonant chord progression." It's nothing more than a pretty obvious rip-off of like a ten different Beatles songs. Two dominant seventh chords a half step apart. Big whoop. Still a terrific track, though.

I can certainly hear the broadly White Album-ish hazy psychedelica feel of this track, and I've often seen it compared to the Beatles, but I've never really been able to think of specific Beatles tracks I could compare it to.

Yeah I guess it's got ephemeral pieces of I Want You (She's So Heavy) and maybe certain parts of Sexy Sadie? But I agree it never screamed Beatles to me.

It doesn't sound like The Beatles at all

Well, it's a refreshing change from Parachutes being called a Beatles rip-off.

(In my view, neither song is even remotely close to being that.)

At least I can hear the similarities with Parachutes

:haha: For the record, I'm not suggesting the whole song is a Beatles rip-off, just the guitar riff.

Sleight of Hand is lovely but this was an overwhelming victory for Tremor Christ.

I don't hear it, but I ultimately don't care if songs are rip-offs of other songs. I'm a Dylan fan and a jazz fan and a rap fan -- that sort of linear recycling of previously conceived musical elements is such a huge part of so much music I listen to that I couldn't afford to be bothered by it.

Team KD.

My threshold for what constitutes a musical "rip off" is very high; anything short of outright plagiarism doesn't really make the grade.

Once again...I fail to see a world where I don't vote for Tremor Christ!
That is one of my favorite songs of all time!

Sleight of Hand, simply bc it's my favorite PJ song. But goddamn it hurts voting against Tremor Christ. I don't mind SoH losing here.

Part of the reason I love RMPJMM so goddamn much is that it reminds me how often I CAN agree with Spenno. I don't get to do that very often outside of this tournament.

Team Spenno & KD! :luv:
