This is the only easy choice for me this round. In my tree is very good, but Immortality just outclasses it.

Still reeling from In My Tree's victory over Hail Hail. I feel like I'm playing with house money!

In My Tree gets my vote (duh!). But I also love Immortality. Both worthy winners.

I find "Immortality" very uninteresting on every level. Again, "In My Tree" is their best song. I don't find this one hard at all.

IMT takes this easily. Hail Hail deserves to be here, though.

Apart from Jack's drumming and the entire bridge, IMT is hugely overrated. The lyrics are silly and the verse riffs are boring. Easy vote for Immortality from me.

IMT is way more interesting than Immortality, which strikes me as a rather straightforward and dull song in most ways.

Silly lyrics and boring music are exactly what "Immortality" is, though. Aren't the verses just two chords over and over again?

I agree the music to Immortality is simple, but I think it works largely because of the guitar tones -- everything sounds ragged and worn out, so those two guitar chords take on some real weight. And then I find the lyrics to be excellent.

In My Tree fairly decisively. Looking at what's made it near the finish line, one thing I'm struck by is how well Vitalogy works for me as an album as opposed to a collection of songs. I love the album immensely, but when I think about I'm not sure any of its songs besides Last Exit would crack my top 10 or anything.

I found this to be more or less true for Riot Act. It's my #2 Pearl Jam album but there are very few individual songs as strong as a lot of the stuff on the other records that came before.

Immortality has some nice lyrics. But I don't see what's "excellent" about them. Nor do I understand how IMY has "silly" lyrics, though. So, whatever. I think IMT's lyrics are far stronger overall. But I do really love Immortality. I've never found it to be boring. It's moody and evocative in a way that I find attractive. But it just can't touch In My Tree. On any level.

But, if it makes you feel better, Stip, Immortality has a much better chance of beating In My Tree than it would have had beating Hail Hail.
