I may be missing information, but from what I recall all we have is a note from Ed that says something like "we look forward to seeing them at the event".
That could be interpreted as a tacit invitation, but did they actually reach out to him? I don't think we know that. Dave A. seems to be suggesting they didn't.

Re: HALL OF FAME!!!!!!
In a perfect world Dave A. and Jack would have been inducted, too, and there would have been a nice little reunion with Dave A. and the band.
However, just hearing Ed say his name a couple times and saying that he's a "great fucking drummer" was nice. Seems like we're making progress.

Matt Chamberlain seemed to take that as an invitation because he politely declined due to a prior commitment.theplatypus wrote:Was it?E.H. Whats bugging me most about this all, is, when I think of Pearl Jam, I HAVE NEVER, thought of "oh, that band with the AMAZING DRUMMER" We are not talking about John Bonham, Ginger Baker, Keith Moon, Mitch Mitchell, John Densmore, Neil Pert, Stewart Copeland, or Janet Weiss. Pearl Jam, it has always been a guitar driven band, with a great lead singer. Dave A, and his 3 years, should not be over shadowing what Stone and Jeff have been doing for 35 years together, and for 26 of that with Jeff and Ed, and at this point, IT IS! Ed said it best last night, Dave is a great drummer... and that should be enough.

the drummer thing does matter
because this the litmus test for this asinine exercise in self congratulation is 'fame' , and pearl jam rose to fame with Dave A behind the kit and not matt c
So he should be included cos they sold the most records of their career when he was in the band.

- Of course Pearl Jam are a "guitar-based" band. All those drummers you mentioned play in guitar-based bands. It's fucking rock music.MadTIGERmaN wrote:Yup, it was, Chamberlain even said he had previous work commitment or hed have gone.E.H. - The Dave A. thing is not "overshadowing" anything. You're presenting a false dichotomy. Some people just feel like Pearl Jam's most iconic and influential drummer, who played with them at the peak of their fame, should have been inducted along with them. Especially when fucking Dave Krusen was.
- If you listen to Vs. and the drumming doesn't stand out to you, probably even more than the guitars do, then I don't even know what to tell you.

Re: HALL OF FAME!!!!!!
You are right on. I look at Pearl Jam drummers like really good role players on a basketball team. People are partial to one based on their style/era but they aren't ultimately going to determine a win.MadTIGERmaN wrote:Yup, it was, Chamberlain even said he had previous work commitment or hed have gone.E.H. Ten, obviously, and Krusen played in that during the full hot minute he was with the band. But Dave A. had already taken over by the time of its release, and he was effectively the drummer during the "Ten era" and that initial surge of fame.

dude, go read some of the press releases before and after last night, almost half of the Rolling Stone article today was about the drummers. Hell, even the first half of the article, talking about what they played, points out who WAS drumming, setting up the second part of the article, who was not drumming. Dave K is the first member of the band mentioned, Stone and Jeff are not mentioned until the 2nd half of the article, and its in the paragraph leading into "not all former members are happy." Yes, this is bad writing, but this isn't the only news source treating this story this way.

Re: HALL OF FAME!!!!!!
I misinterpreted your point-- I thought you meant that inducting him would have overshadowed what the rest of the band accomplished. Then yeah, I agree with you that this is not really worth obsessing about to this extent. Could've been avoided if he had been inducted along with them.

It's only become such a strangely charged issue because the band have been absolute weirdos about their previous drummers over the years, particularly Abbruzzese.

Dave a isn't he only that has been a weirdo about it over the years. He's the only one bitching and causing a scene and being kind of a brat about it.
I'm sick of Pearl Jam fans taking it all out on Pearl Jam. They are the only ines who haven't aired their grievances in the press over the years. The only ones in the scenario that haven't been children about it.
Dave was awesome but this thing is so old and tiresome.
Nobody gives a shit about the rock n roll hall of fame so why do you give a shit so much that Dave a was snubbed?

I think the entire RRHoF is irredeemably stupid but, if you're going to have it and Pearl Jam are going to be inducted, it seems completely arbitrary to induct Dave Krusen and Matt Cameron and not Dave Abbruzzese and Jack Irons.

It would have been real nice to sit with those wives and children watching former band mates that fucked you over get fellated with dozens of cameras on you.
