Re: HALL OF FAME!!!!!!
I just watched the Dave Krusen performance again. It legitimately gave me the chills, especially when he was doing the drum fills during the solo and Ed was cheering him along.
The band has never been one of those bands like U2 or Green Day, where it's the same dudes from the very beginning. That's something special this particular band has never had, and really very few can ever maintain. That ended once Krusen left. Dave A basically arrived from industry contacts, while Jack and Matt have genuine connections but came later.
Krusen was the one jamming on Mookie Blaylock songs and resurrected the 'same 5 guys against the world' mentality they never really had. Pretty amazing to see it come back from the dead. I'll probably watch this performance alot.

Fun fact: Dave Krusen plays drums on the first Hovercraft album, Akathisia, under the name "Karl 330".

because this the litmus test for this asinine exercise in self congratulation is 'fame' , and pearl jam rose to fame with Dave A behind the kit and not matt c

This is also correcttheplatypus wrote:- Of course Pearl Jam are a "guitar-based" band. All those drummers you mentioned play in guitar-based bands. It's fucking rock music.MadTIGERmaN wrote:Yup, it was, Chamberlain even said he had previous work commitment or hed have gone.E.H. He could have been there last night if he wanted to.
Whats bugging me most about this all, is, when I think of Pearl Jam, I HAVE NEVER, thought of "oh, that band with the AMAZING DRUMMER" We are not talking about John Bonham, Ginger Baker, Keith Moon, Mitch Mitchell, John Densmore, Neil Pert, Stewart Copeland, or Janet Weiss. Pearl Jam, it has always been a guitar driven band, with a great lead singer. Dave A, and his 3 years, should not be over shadowing what Stone and Jeff have been doing for 35 years together, and for 26 of that with Jeff and Ed, and at this point, IT IS! Ed said it best last night, Dave is a great drummer... and that should be enough.
- The Dave A. thing is not "overshadowing" anything. You're presenting a false dichotomy. Some people just feel like Pearl Jam's most iconic and influential drummer, who played with them at the peak of their fame, should have been inducted along with them. Especially when fucking Dave Krusen was.
- If you listen to Vs. and the drumming doesn't stand out to you, probably even more than the guitars do, then I don't even know what to tell you.

Mods, can you take the last 10 pages of this thread and move to a new "Dave A. whinefest" thread, so this one can get back to HoF conversation?

Also accurate. I mean, were they trying to save money on trophy production costs or something?Birds in Hell wrote:Seeing as he's the guy who missed out, that makes sense.Strat wrote:He's the only one bitching and causing a scene and being kind of a brat about it.
I think the entire RRHoF is irredeemably stupid but, if you're going to have it and Pearl Jam are going to be inducted, it seems completely arbitrary to induct Dave Krusen and Matt Cameron and not Dave Abbruzzese and Jack Irons.

Chad Kroeger was on the mic for their rise to fame. They should consider firing him over breakfast to find some longevity that might help them too. It's a winning formulahlniv wrote:Also accurate. Re: HALL OF FAME!!!!!!
No, it's out there. Dave A. accidentally damaged one of.Ed's guitars, then Ed had Stone fire him.Tuolumne wrote:With Dave after all these years we really don't have much to go on as to what went down. There's Dave's side of the story which we've heard, but we've heard little from the band aside what was in the PJ20 book and some errant comments. Just that he didn't fit in. My sense is it's fairly typical dynamics that happen to many bands. One band member was going through an especially hard time with something. Whether or not you agree with how he's handling it or not, he's your bandmate, you're on his team. You've gotta make sure he's alright, or there is no band to play for. More importantly than that, he's the star so he holds the cards. Your the drummer that they hired cause they were desperate to get the Ten touring plans going. Somehow the band took off, but you gotta recognize your 1 of 5 people and that they gotta be getting along with you. I dunno, at the end of the day, it's just relationships, I think the fan viewpoint is just one very skewed version of what probably really went down. I hope someone in the band writes a book and we learn more about all of this.

I know it was probably a one-off but, man, I'd love to see them play with him again.
