The fact that they aren't relying too much on previous world building done in Breaking Bad and retaining drama for a character/characters that we know end up at Point B in the future just goes to show how proficient people writing and producing the show are.

The two actors actually really don't like each other in real life which has influenced the script.
Spoiler: show

Spoiler: show
Until i clicked the spoiler I had entirely justified how it could be true in my head. Nice work bammer.

We went to a Walker Stalker Convention in December and Giancarlo Esposito (Gus) was asked a question about this Season. He trolled saying that Vince overplayed his hand and he was holding out for a better contract. :haha: He then went on a mini preaching session about cell phones and how we needed to connect more as a society and how the "Great Architect" gave us all the ability to make our lives what we wanted. It was pretty inspiring, to be honest. Later, at his autograph/photo booth he was yelling about free box cutters for stopping by. I'm excited to see the return of Gus Fring, to say the least. :P

I agree that it was an enjoyable episode. I really love that the show is back.

But Jesus Christ I swear about 50% of that episode was just Mike fiddling around with car parts and batteries. I'm just so much more interested in Jimmy's story than Mike's that I don't have a lot of patience for that.

i think they're trying to capture some of the "yeah! science bitch!" element of BB with Mike's old school police work

I think that's part of it, but I also think they realize that the payoff is obvious (getting to see Fring), so they have to add as much drama to the journey as they can.

Sure, but the stakes are a lot lower for Mike's story than for Jimmy's. We know where each end up in a few years time when Breaking Bad starts, and Mike is a lot closer to who he is on BB than Jimmy is right now. He'll meet, impress, and begin working for Gus. Compared to everything Jimmy will have to do to become Saul Goodman, there's not as much going on there. The tinkering was def pretty boring. And
Spoiler: show
why was the guy at the end totally unfazed when he retrieves from a black towncar the tracker that was placed in a tan station wagon?
I love the Mike character and what Jonathan Banks does with it. But it does seem like he's sometimes written as less "Hardened Former Philly Detective" and more "Former Station Chief in East Berlin".
