What a drama queen...i was at this side of the argument till this.
You know, I'm having second thoughts on if he's really a good guy or not. Maybe he's been playing the sympathy card with the fans and milking that end of it. I think it is now coming to light how he's a very difficult personality. Like, unredeemingly difficult. Everyone has maturity issues when they're in their twenties, but people grow out of it. I mean, this is 23 years later and he;s acting like this. Now I'm thinking to myself "Thank God they fired him."
Well, im not going to go that far and think he is not a good guy. He blew this chance of re connect with the band. Specially Stone and Mike and reach out to Jeff and Ed as well. But perhaps to be more calm and in peace with what happened 23 years ago.

Firmly on Dave A.'s side here. I think he makes valid points in that statement.

I know I'm being harsh on the guy.

Pearl Jam could have done more. But he could have as well.

But that wasn't as fun as my long rant that included yet another cymbals jab.

I disagree with the notion Dave A is the band's most iconic drummer. I think it depends entirely on when you got into the band.

This isn't about who is PJ's best drummer, though. This is about how the Dave A. situation was handled from both sides. And we'll never really know if PJ reached out or not. If they did, is Dave A. just denying because he is still bitter? I mean, Jack showed up to the ceremony and didn't Chamberlain say he couldn't make it? I have a hard time believing that the band extended invites to them but not to Dave A.

I don't, because if not for the time he was in the band, there might not have even been a later point in the band. That's not saying HE was the reason they got big, just that they got big while he was in the band. If not for their success at that time, who knows if Jack or Matt would've even had a chance to join later?

durden, evenslow and others that have put their thoughts in this thread, thank you. The feelings this ceremony brought out for me have been fantastic and it is great to have them reciprocated by so many that have also loved this band.

A moment I enjoyed was seeing Letterman's true excitement come out when discussing Ledbetter. I put on the studio version last night, for the first time in years, and got emotional. Not out of nostalgia, but out of sheer excitement to how great that song is. Mike's tone, the notes, the way the music weaves together with the drums.....then my ipod shot to the front of the Lost Dogs record and here comes All Night. I found myself dancing like a fool on the sidewalk near my house.

We picked the right band, boys and girls!

They became iconic when Dave A was in the band. If someone got into them in 1999, then Pearl Jam was ALREADY iconic by that time and whether or not someone started digging them in 1992 or 2004 has no bearing at all on when the band became iconic.

This is completely taking away the fuck that Dave K was the man writing, rehearsing, and recording the songs that were Ten which is the album that has sold the most and mostly on the radio.

yes, Dave A. brought a lot to the band but the general populace at the time probably cared little for who the drummer was.

I sure as fuck wouldn't go just to sit in the back and watch some douchebags that fired me get felated by thousands even if they did invite me.

But whatever, it's over now. He was able to say something about it and they refused to do anything about it. Now everyone can go back to their miserable lives. The end.

I never said they did. John Q. Public would be laughing his ass off right now if he read any of this.

And I'm not taking anything away from Krusen. He simply was not in the band when it became huge. That's not an opinion. That's just a fact. Hell, he wasn't even in the band when the one album he recorded with them was released! He had been out of the band for months when that happened. Was he an important part of the impetus of the band? Sure. ( Although, I'm sure the songs would have changed very little if another guy was playing drums.) Was he a part of the band when it became more popular than Jesus? Nope.

I don't really think Pearl Jam has an iconic drummer. Whenever someone thinks of The Who, they think of Keith Moon. Pearl Jam does not have that with any of their drummers.

How many casual fans, who don't post on a Pearl Jam message board, even realize there are multiple drummers?

One thing I loved about the HoF speeches, especially Ed's, was how they acknowledged how lucky each of them are to be in Pearl Jam. Eddie said he probably wouldn't even be alive today if not for Pearl Jam. He certainly wouldn't be married to his wife and get to be an official mascot to his lifelong favorite team, the Cubs. You can tell he is genuinely grateful. And Eddie is arguably (or maybe not so) the main reason why Pearl Jam became what they became. Without Eddie, its doubtful Jeff, Stone, and Mike would have ever really "made it", definitely not to level they have.

Now think about how lucky Dave A. was to have been in Pearl Jam, even if for just three years. The original drummer, who recorded the band's biggest album, left. Then, his replacement left. Then Dave got the opportunity...talk about luck! He definitely made the most of it, and his drumming is adored by some of the band's biggest fans. He got writing credits on two of the biggest albums of the 90s! Just think of the residuals on that! Every time Daughter gets played on the radio, is downloaded from iTunes, is played on YouTube, etc., Dave gets a few pennies. I bet he has no problems still cashing those checks. I wonder what his life would be like today had he not been in Pearl Jam, even for just three years.

Maybe instead of being so publicly angry and confrontational about their split, Dave could try acknowledging how lucky he was to be in the band, to be a part of their legacy, and to be able to still collect what is probably some sizable income off of being in the band. I made this point a few weeks ago, but it is pretty telling that he has done basically nothing of consequence since being kicked out of Pearl Jam. Meanwhile the band has seemingly reunited with every other former connection to the band for which there was a falling out, except Dave A.

23 years is a long time to hold a grudge. I'm guessing none of the five even really remember what exactly what went down. I sure don't remember things clearly from five years ago, let along 23.
