Oh yeah, one step ahead of ya. I got XM radio recently and listen to a lot of Slacker and Pandora. I was just trying to promote MYM locally and see if they'd actually play it. You'd be amazed at how many people here locally ONLY listen to regular local radio. It's sad really, they don't get any exposure to new music and it's a reeeeaaal possibilityyyy that they never will on this station. :|
That's a shame but that's also most local radio stations, even in big cities/markets. They have playlists and only once or twice a week have shows that play unknown/new bands.
I think it's up to a listener to find that stuff for themselves though.
If something new is on radio it's probably past it's best anyways

That's why places like RM are great. You have enthusiasts of good, established acts and new(or new to you and I ) bands and can go in and explore because you trust the person recommending it.

It's doing alright in the UK, by our usual standards (Alive once in a blue moon). I've heard it on Planet Rock and I think Absolute Radio have been playing it too, albeit at about 2 am.

This needs checking but I'm pretty it was first played over here last Thursday on Radio 1 about 10-15 minutes BEFORE the countdown on the website finished. I listened to Zane Lowe's podcast because I knew he played it and wanted to see what he said about it (good things, spoke about PJ's legacy and class for about 2 minutes before playing it - I think he's a genuine fan). Now his show is from 7-9 pm and the countdown ended at 8 pm our time. He played MYM about 45 minutes into his show so unless I'm missing something that would've been before the countdown reached 0. He did claim it as a world exclusive (something he seems to get a lot of), too. Just wished I'd known he was going to play it first this time last week.

Zane Lowe is such a shitebag. Never saw a more fawning flattering gimp in all my life.
And yes he played it before the countdown ended.
Hope he got reprimanded.

I don't think anyone should get 'reprimanded' for playing a song early. And Zane Lowe is a bit of a dick, but he has to plug loads of bands to make money so he can't really be trusted to say anything actually true. A bit like the band itself.

We met him outside the venue at Pj in Cardiff 2000(one of the bands picks of the whole tour)
He said it was being filmed and would be broadcast on MTV the following month. Never happened. The cunt lied. Haha

MTV probably dropped it.

Haha, that's funny because I'm sure when he was presenting Reading 06 coverage he said he was so excited because he'd never seen PJ before.

Have you heard the session he had with PJ in 06 on his radio show? They did an interview and also played a few songs (different version of Garden if I remember). I got the sense in the interview that Ed wasn't exactly warming to Zane Lowe. Not that Ed really ever sounds like he's warming to anyone when they're interviewing him but still, it seemed he was being actively awkward at stages. Which in EV code means "I think this guy's a cunt."

I think he genuinely really likes PJ. But he's like the male equivalent of Jo Whiley, in that he'll totally cream over some terrible bands, as as I said, because that's what he needs to do to make money. So in the end, you never know what his real opinions are. And when you praise everything, nobody really cares what you really think.

And he praises everyone he's about to interview. Every time.

If you want to see ed be reeeeally consciously awkward, the jools holland 'interview' is a must.

That's it. Whenever I've heard him talk about PJ I get the feeling he is a genuine follower. I know his favourite album is Siamese Dream so that's a clue to where his true interests lie. But he's a hype machine, it just seems that whoever the guy is talking about he makes himself sound like their biggest fan. I suppose that's why he's considered a good DJ and has got where he is - but it also makes him seem quite hollow. I'd like to hear him play something and just once say "Here's the new one by ________, personally I think it sounds like a load of wank."

Yep, seen it. I actually felt a bit sorry for Jools in that one.

Don't. He also puts ridiculous requests and demands on bands before interviews happen or the bands don't get on the show.

My overriding memory of that interview is Jools almost demanding that they play Alive at the end. Ed loved that one.

That interview was pretty bad though, why was jools so intent on talking about the Damn avocado? Is it a fruit my ass.

Though it would have been cool for them to do the show.....I don't know how likely that would be now
