I picked him up as a spot starter on opening day and now he's anchoring my pitching staff.PHATJ wrote:Ervin Santana pitched a complete game one hitter today. 3-0 so far with a 0.41 ERA. I guess that's pretty good.

If a career .200 hitter can get 2 statues, why not?Bammer wrote:Ok sorry, after 76 career starts.numbers wrote:Yes, his life should be wholly defined by how it ended.Bammer wrote:That pitcher from Miami is getting a statue after crashing his boat while coked out.

Nate Silver invented a new stat for relievers today, and I really like it: The goose egg!

What do you think?
It's one of my favorite things: a counting stat that actually tells you something about a player's value!

What do you think?
Basically, a reliever pitches a scoreless, clutch inning.A relief pitcher10 records a goose egg for each inning in which:
It’s the seventh inning or later;
At the time the pitcher faces his first batter of the inning:
His team leads by no more than two runs, or
The score is tied, or
The tying run is on base or at bat
No runs (earned or unearned) are charged to the pitcher in the inning and no inherited runners score while the pitcher is in the game; and
The pitcher either:
Records three outs (one inning pitched), or
Records at least one out, and the number of outs recorded plus the number of inherited runners totals at least three.

I don't see how you can say nope? Its the same thing just redefining the criteria from a hold situation to a very defined situation. So, a hold redefined. And I suppose a closer getting a save could fall into the goose egg category too. So hes redefining a hold, and adding in saves. Seems kinda pointless to me. I'm perfectly fine with holds for the set up men, and saves for the closer. Those are basically the same situations with the exception of the "his team leads by no more than 2 runs" the rest of that all fits in the already used two stats.A Hold is credited any time a relief pitcher enters a game in a Save Situation (see definition below), records at least one out, and leaves the game never having relinquished the lead. Note: a pitcher cannot finish the game and receive credit for a Hold, nor can he earn a hold and a save.

Marlins are giving Ichiro his first start of the year tonight in Seattle, very cool of Donny Baseball (yes, having the use of the DH is a plus) I'd bet he starts Wednesdays game as well as I believe its Ichiro Bobblehead night in Seattle. (and again, they can give Stanton or Yelich a night of rest using the DH)

It is a Mariners/Marlins dual bobblehead doll. M's uni celebrates record season of 262 hits, Marlins uni celebrates 3000th MLB hit.MadTIGERmaN wrote:Marlins are giving Ichiro his first start of the year tonight in Seattle, very cool of Donny Baseball (yes, having the use of the DH is a plus) I'd bet he starts Wednesdays game as well as I believe its Ichiro Bobblehead night in Seattle. It is the dumbest bobblehead ever.
