Not necessarily directed at this thread, but I'm getting really fucking tired of the direction craft beer culture has been moving towards. It's been a long time since I've met someone in my neck of the woods who truly seems to enjoy a beer.

Their thing is to put original artwork on their cans. Their porter is nice too.EJ wrote:

Intense fan culture. The waiting in lines for whales, the hoarding, the shaming and one upping. In the last four or five years I've noticed that a lot of people in my extended craft beer circles and networks have seemed to stop caring about the simple act of drinking a beer with friends.doone wrote:What do you mean?washing machine wrote:Not necessarily directed at this thread, but I'm getting really fucking tired of the direction craft beer culture has been moving towards. A little background: I GM'd one of the premier craft beer bars in town before trying my hand at sales and marketing for a small/new brewery. Through those two experiences I gained who I'd estimate are some of the loudest of the loud groups of beer nerds in Houston as Facebook friends over the years, so my view of the local culture on a whole is definitely exaggerated.

Yeah, that's too bad. At least you have the people here who seem to mostly drink out of love. I'm definitely not a hoarder or a chaser, I just enjoy raising a pint. Cheers!Bammer wrote:Those people sound like dickswashing machine wrote:Intense fan culture. The waiting in lines for whales, the hoarding, the shaming and one upping. I've stopped drinking IPA's except for a select few. I'm most part because everything seems to be IPA, but also because I heard a dick at a hipster bar shaming someone for not knowing what a good IPA is. That person was drinking a Ranger IPA. The good news is I've discovered some brew types that I never really knew I enjoyed.

I understand where you're coming from. In general, I've stayed out of that. I still try all the new good ones that I can try that are within my idea of a reasonable cost but for the most part my beer consumption is not of the "special release" type. I mostly just like drinking beer. I have my favorites (Wicked Weed FTW) I like to promote the enjoyment of drinking beer and making beer. In the end to each their own enjoyment however you like to do it and I still try to learn from everyone, It's really the negative parts of it that I dislike. (so and so's beer sucks because X)

I'm definitely exaggerating here. A lot of good people in the community, for sure.Electromatic wrote:washing machine wrote:Intense fan culture. It's a fine line, of course. There are certain elements to enjoying beer that seem extremely snobby from the outside looking in, and small local breweries are always making killer one-offs and seasonals that are gone in a day.
Two cardinal rules:
1. Don't put beer on a pedestal. Drink it often and try cool stuff when you see it, but don't fret if you didn't get a chance to taste something before it's gone. There's always something else around the corner.
2. Don't shame people. Your tastes aren't that special either.

drinking a Born (Again) Yesterday by Lagunitas. It's unfiltered, which is right up my alley.

Nice. It's easily one of my favorites. Drinking one right now actually.washing machine wrote:EJ wrote:Lawson's Sip of Sunshine![]()
When I used to do sales for a brewery, the owners let me and a couple of home brewers try our hand at raking out all the spent grain in their 15 barrel mash tun. It took all afternoon long in a hot brewhouse in August. One of the guys brought a six pack of that from a trip and we cracked them afterwards. One of the best beers of my life.

HammerHeart Brewing Company - Sköll Och Hati (mildly smoked chocolate stout) Bottle number 335/744
This brewery is just 2.5 miles from my house, and they are spectacular. They do special limited bottle releases with extremely limited distribution. If you are ever in the Twin Cities area, I high recommend going to the brewery/tap room. Super cool atmosphere, even better beer.
