For the younger folks out there, that was exactly why Nirvana happened. I remember that Van Hagar album was huge that year, along with those two bloated Guns N Roses albums. They were everywhere, like a goddamn recurring nightmare. I wasn't putting them in the same artistic bag. Just that they were fucking annoying with one 8 minute single after another. It was like in 1988 with that Def Leppard album. Every song was a goddamn single and played endlessly on MTV and it never ended.Strat wrote:Fuck you. UYI 1 and 2 are great. Not even in the same bullshit shit that was Van Hagar

As if it wasn't enough to suffer through one version of "Don't Cry", they used to air both versions and people would cream over their artistic bravado and argue about which version was better. Then they released "November Rain" and I heard that every 15 minutes.

Re: Let the drummer debate continue!
Summer of '91.. Skid Row had the first #1 album with sales recorded through Digalog. MTV made a huge deal about it. It was interesting watching music change right in front of our eyes. I still think R.E.M. was a big part of it that never gets mainstream credit for it. "Out Of Time" was huge that year. Back then, I called them College Music.

Speaking of, the guy who directed that Poundcake vid is the same guy who directed Don't Cry and November Rain.Wendy Carlos's Twin wrote:As if it wasn't enough to suffer through one version of "Don't Cry", they used to air both versions and people would cream over their artistic bravado and argue about which version was better. Very cool. The whole Hall of Fame thing and stuff like this makes me completely reassess Dave K. I kind still associated Ten with Dave A. b/c he was the guy touring it. Turns out Dave K was funky in his own right - underrated!

Totally. It may be an unpopular PJ opinion, but this is why I kinda like the Ten redux. The drums really pop on it kinda giving the album a live feel. Porch is a really good example of what a great drummer Krusen is.evenslow wrote:Very cool. The whole Hall of Fame thing and stuff like this makes me completely reassess Dave K. Yea, i think its mostly on the band as they dont write really groovy tunes anymore. No space for nothing in many of their songs these days as well as no subtlety in their older songs anymore. Though i do get that Matt C doesn't really bring much to a song like Animal....
