I have some, but I need more of the deep cuts. At the moment, this is what I have:
Live Anthology
Wildflowers
Greatest Hits
Damn The Torpedoes
Tome Petty & The Heartbreakers
I'm thinking the next one will most likely be either 'You're Gonna Get It!' or 'Hard Promises' or 'Long After Dark'. I'm leaning towards 'You're Gonna Get It!' so I can round out his first 3 albums. Is this the right choice RM?
I think Long After Dark is a fantastic record and well worth getting. I know Tom is on record saying he felt like he was treading water with that album, but I really dig it. Any record with Straight Into Darkness, Deliver Me, Change of Heart on it is stellar.
I don't spin 'You're Gonna Get It' that much but it's definitely worth having. They're all worth having

Thanks. After doing a little reading up on those three, it seems like both "You're Gonna Get It' and 'Long After Dark' are sandwiched in between better known albums and thus "underrated". Maybe kinda like The Clash's 'Give em Enough Rope', which I really like. I think I'll get both, let them sync in, then go for 'Hard Promises'.
I'm listening to Damn The Torpedoes, wrapping it up now with Louisiana Rain. I know this album well, but it's been a while since I've listened to the whole thing. I have a classic rock mix with pretty much this entire album, so I normally just get the songs randomly. Listening from start to finish is impressive because every song is good. It's just one after another after another of damn fine rock.
I went ahead and got 'You're Gonna Get It' and 'Full Moon Fever'. The latter I know well, I just don't have it anymore for whatever reason. It's been forever (15+ years) since I've listened to it start to finish, so looking forward to that.

I saw them for the first time in 02 I think. I was in high school and it was one of the best shows I've ever been to. Saw them again 06-ish and it was pretty disappointing.

Night 1 was amazing as it was my first. Night 2 was a huge letdown because it was the same scripted show (banter and all). I kind of swore off seeing him since but now that he's got a couple great new recent releases i want to go again.
The thing about it is, now that I've gotten more into him, he has so many songs I'd want to hear, I'd be disappointed going to a show because something's inevitably gonna be left out. Unless he starts doing PJ-length shows.
Let me tell you, Homer Simpson is cock of nothing!

Can't go to a show thinking of that. When you go to Tom Petty just know that whatever handful of songs he picks, they're going to be classics and you're gonna have a great time.
