What movies are you watching?

Been watching some rather "dumb" or maybe "B" quality movies on netflix for fun the past few nights. Backcountry, A Lonely Place to Die Alone, and Midnight Meat Train were the latest. i actually enjoyed them quite a bit. Midnight Meat Train felt like a classic clive barker tale that had some intense situations before becoming completely over the top and ridiculous.

Backcountry - I'm a sucker for a movie like this for obvious reasons. Acting was weak, story was thin, but the attack scenes were pretty gruesome and wonderful.

A Lonely Place to Die Alone - Lol. This movie had no idea what it wanted to be. I kind of zoned in and out of it and was the weakest of the bunch.

MMT is fantastic. One of the best horror movies of the aughts. Backcountry is good too - some genuinely frightening stuff in there.

the bear attack scene was really well done. A lot more frightening and realistic than that Dicaprio movie i thought.

Yeah totally. I loved the moment when the bear was sniffing the tent as they slept. And when they come to the top of that ridge and just see forest. Yeesh.

I went back packing with a lady about 8 years ago up to one of my favorite high country lakes in the world. I woke up in the middle of the night because i heard noises outside of the tent. I heard branches, leaves, snorting, and sniffing. I woke my friend up because i was freaked out but she was deep in sleep and basically just rumbled about something then kept snoring. I felt/heard the noise come closer and closer to the right side of my head and then the noises and energy became more distant. I ended up falling back asleep.

Woke up in the morning and the back of my sandal had been bitten into. It was laying outside of the tent.

I still have no idea what it was but.....

So went to go and watch Alien last night, but it sold out well in advance (Who knew it'd be so popular) - ended up seeing Guardians of the Galaxy 2 instead. It was fun, but probably not as good as the first one

I watched O Brother, Where Art Though? almost out of nowhere today (I totally forgot I had downloaded it months ago, and while searching for something "light" it caught my eye). Loved the various atmospheres between the different scenes (worked well for the idea of "episodes"), especially the Klan meeting. The supporting cast was the best part--always love Stephen Root, Mr. Kruger always puts in good work, and John Goodman is just John Goodman. Middling in the Coen bros' pantheon, but still liked it.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

We have fairly different tastes in our Coens. Nothing wrong with that. The important thing is to love them.

Middling Coes brother's films are still great! I thought there was plenty pf clever writing, nice set pieces, it was an interesting adaptation, I laughed out loud a few times. I bet I'd like it better on another viewing, but it didn't grab me immediately like Llewellyn Davis or Serious Man.
