I agree -- the video looked real fun. But the COD player base seems to be disappointe: "Obvious cash grab, they won't reclaim the players who migrated over to BF1," that sort of stuff. But I am keen to try this.

COD is the most hated franchise in gaming. They will get bashed no matter what they do.

Popularity usually brings its share of haters. The gameplay is still very good, just not groundbreaking.

What game is Personal like?

It's hard to describe or compare it to another game. It's a mixture of a lot of different genres. The combat is done inside dungeons with turn based combat - like the good, old, final fantasy games. You have a party of four but there's also a bit of pokemon because you can capture creatures. But it's done with a ton of style.

Outside of combat it's a social sim game set in Tokyo. Your strengthening bonds and gaining new skills with the people you go into dungeons with by attending class, doing side-quests and talking to them.

I think this will be the next game that I buy.

Agreed. The portability of the Switch and the resale value of the Wii U version made this a no brainer upgrade though.

I walked into Target yesterday and the doors played the Mario Kart starting sound when I walked through the security sensors. It was....weird.

Apparently Prey comes out today, had no idea. It's already getting great reviews. Made by the same team that produced Dishonored. I'm probably gonna have to get it.

It looks pretty interesting. Like a great descendent of Half Life, but there are some elements (the recycling grenade, and I think you can take the form of inanimate objects?) that seem pretty unique.

Prey looks super cool, but it may be a long while before I get to it. Still dicking around in Zelda.

There's a free Prey demo on the PS store. I spent about an hour with it yesterday...

Gameplay is snappy. Dialogue, cut scenes, and exploration all happen with a swiftness; despite some thematic elements similar to Fallout 4 (you wake up in a futuristic facility and have to figure out what's going on), your options for exploration are way more limited, which is a good thing. I already have a good sense of the back story after just an hour, and don't really see a possibility to run around an enormous world avoiding the main objective; of course this could change.

Voice acting, character design, music, and world design are excellent. This game has a distinct vibe that is awesome.

The skills tree is more Far Cry than Fallout -- you'll be able to make some choices, but I suspect you'll be maxed out on relatively short time. You can also add attachments to your suit, and modify weapons, neither of which I could do in the demo.

Despite all this great stuff, there's one glaring flaw: the action sucks. At least in the demo, the only enemies are these black globular things called mimics. You can attack them your wrench, or freeze them momentarily with your GLOO gun (shoots globs of glue), and then attack them with your wrench. Your aim is kind of crappy, and fighting these guys became tedious in just an hour. Presumably there will be better enemies and better weapons as the game progresses, but this is billed as a sci-fi simulator, not an action game, and that seems apt once you start fighting.

There's a "telekinetic" element that is hinted at in the demo, and I've seen it in gameplay footage, so that could be awesome, but it's not present in the hour I played.

I also spent too much time logging into computer terminals and reading people's emails. Granted, they are typically short and sweet, and the terminal interface is very clean, so this aspect plays way better than Fallout. But if I'm already sick of it after just an hour, I'm worried it could become a real pain in the full game.

I'm on the fence about this. Won't get it now, because ice cream season is upon me and I won't have time for this. But later? Perhaps.
