I used to think every PJ album was made up of 50% the sound of the previous album and 50% in a new direction. (I guess the phrase I'm looking for is 'logical extension')

That died with S/T as they sounded like a different band compared to Riot Act. However it kind of resumed with Backspacer and I think will continue through LB. So it'll be 50% Backspacer and the rest in a new direction. Hopefully with a much better production.

Yep. Total ear-boner for me.
Ear-Boner would have been a better name for this album.

See I only find it marginally better than Backspacer. Over compressed and all that but I rather enjoy most of the guitar sound on S/T but based on MYM its seems like they will be closer to Backspacer.
Agreed...I don't see a big difference in the production style. There is a difference in the composition itself; there's nothing on Backspacer that feels this unhinged, but if we're talking straight production style, it sounds pretty similar.

While I quite like MYM for what it is, I'm hoping it's the exception on this album.
If you take the mystery soundcheck song, plus Of the Earth and you have the makings of a solid Crazy Horse-like album. Ear-Boner indeed.

Quite a bit of online promo for LB. Is anyone else getting banner ads everywhere they go on the internet?
Today I got the banner ad, plus the 15-second MYM video ad before the content was shown...

Thanks Pete for that lesson on how internet advertising works.
They are still paying by impression and it's coming up a lot.

I've seen about 3 of those ads and every time I think "What's the use of advertising this stuff to me? I already bought every possible pre-order of LB that exists. Go tell someone who has no clue that PJ even exists anymore." Stupid interweb.

Just watching the promo again and realised that Jeff is using his 12-string Hamer - first time since Ten (?)
While a Western guitar motif lost on the swings drum bass fusion, get your own thoughts into the subconscious often forgotten. "Pendulum" is a sweeping soul from the ballast.
