I thought the direction and payoff was very well done given how over the top it could have been. They did a great job of giving every character some depth and humanity in these last few episodes.

I agree with all of that. This was a really well-done series that I enjoyed throughout, but it was clear all along that it's ultimate success or failure hinged on its ending. And they pulled it off. They chose the right ending and told it well. My quibble is basically that
Spoiler: show
no reasonable person or policeman could think that any of those women committed any sort of crime. Celeste had obviously just had the shit beat out of her, and him falling or being pushed during that is totally reasonable and un-criminal. Why would the ladies even think they needed to lie?
It's basically so the show can justify the 'Greek chorus' of annoying moms being interrogated by the police it used throughout. I never liked that aspect of the show in the first place, and it really ends up being silly when we know the ending. It's clear what happened at the murder scene. There is no reason to suspect it was anything but self-defense, and it's insane to bring all those people to the police station to interview then about something they didn't see. And most of the stuff they talked about had nothing to do with the death. Silly shit. It was just to re-enforce the idea that everyone in this town is gossipy and to remind viewers that someone dies at the end. There were better ways to both things.
These women don't deserve to be punished. They're all decent people, especially by the end.
But still, solid.

Yeah,
Spoiler: show
even if charged there would be no way they would serve time.

How is this going to work with the weird ending the series had? Isn't Dan actually dead?

On her website in 2009, Barr gave her detailed take on where each of the main characters from the show would be in a possible Roseanne revival: Roseanne and Jackie opening the first medical marijuana dispensary in Lanford; Dan reappearing alive after faking his death; DJ being published; Mark dying in Iraq; David leaving Darlene for a woman half his age; Darlene coming out, meeting a woman and having a baby with her; Becky working at Walmart; Arnie befriending the governor of Illinois and remarrying Nancy; Bev selling a painting for $10,000; Jerry and the grandsons forming a boy band; and Bonnie being arrested for selling crack.

Hopefully they pretend that the finale was part of the book Roseanne was writing that they used to erase most of that horrible last season with the whole lottery nonsense.

also, it's always sunny is the most re-watchable show everrrr

It's tremendously rewatchable. For sure. And any/all Nightman shit is funny.

Hey Ruddo, are you related to Roseanne?
