I went through a real shift with these guys. Used to absolutely love them; really enjoyed listening with headphones to appreciate their studio trickery, and the songwriting is top-notch. But one day it just started to feel hollow for me (Phoenix was very similar). Everything was almost too perfect. They are a super talented bunch of songwriters, and they know how to use their studio equipment extremely well...But something about it has started to rub me the wrong way, like they're trying too hard to be the modern Beatles or something. It's irrational, because they are great.

I totally get the "hollow" thing. They're not a band that has ever grabbed me by the heartstrings. The song- and studio-craft is what sucks me in. Their albums just sound cool.

I actually had one of the books and the CDR...I wonder whatever happened to that book. Or if it's even worth anything?
