Wendy Carlos's Twin wrote:I feel about Speed Of Sound the same way I feel about Around The Bend and Thumbing My Way. They're nice enough songs but they're really pedestrian and plain and low-key and not all that interesting musically when it comes down to it. Eddie is the only band member who writes songs like this. Even Mike has written better material than that.
This stop is where I get off.
maybe Wendy Carlos is smarter than her twin
The baffling thing is that by Mike's 'better material than that', what she appears to mean is 'Inside Job'. Which... er... yeah.
But Inside Job isn't terrible, musically. It's the lyrics that ruin it for me.
I agree, but Wendy Carlos's Twin is referring to lyrics as well.
"Last Soldier" was pretty great

I don't remember Last Soldier.

In any case, Inside Job was OK musically but combined with those lyrics, it doesn't amount to something better than any of those Ed songs, which are at least as well-written musically.

I just put this on my MP3 player and turned it up loud in good headphones. Can anyone else hear a couple of seconds of a sound like an air raid siren before the song kicks in? Maybe we do have 'Sirens' here.

Yup feedback or a siren. There's some noise right before it kicks in.

There's something there. Something that could be a siren if one wanted it to be a siren. Or it could be a siren for real.

Man, I hope this is an actual song. It's got a heavy mournfulness that was missing in the last two albums.

Sounds like a siren to me and not a firetruck or anything like that... SWEET!

If this is Sirens, then I'm not sure where the Black comparisons came from.

Sounds like falling down, especially mike's lead. This makes me really excited.

Wasn't Sirens supposedly very piano-driven?

Thats very true, I remember reading that it had piano in it...hmmm this album is becoming more and more interesting to me. Not that it wasn't already. So we have MYM, a ballad on the level of Black with piano, soaring guitars, layers, soaring vocals AND this unknown song that sounds gritty, emotional, layered and a little on the heavy side in a build up to somthing powerful kinda way.

Guys, what if "Falling Down" (or a version of it) is actually on this album? Kinda curious since they dug it up for that 10c Holiday Single a couple of years ago..

I didnt hear the tone as a siren as much as maybe it's that other tune from the tour video leading into it.
There's the dog. You can't fake that stuff. Confess with your mouth.

"officially" you're right, it has not been confirmed. The only person who mentioned it was that PJ guy that gave the info on the countdown clock and other release info and MYM. He was the one that said Sirens was a black like ballad and had the soaring vocals and guitars with layers and blah blah and was about 5 mins long.
