So what's the actual reason for Eddie's bizarre vocals now?

General Pearl Jam discussion.

The thing with vocal cords is that they're flesh - once they're damaged, they can't really be repaired. And he's definitely damaged his, and not just by singing.

But I've got a personal anecdote that makes me wonder if there might be something else.

I've been a singer most of my life - though less in the "performer" sense, so my vocal cords are still about the same as they've always been. But I've noticed in recent years, especially when I'm in the car, that I'll occasionally have some weird internal reflex reaction that actually stops me from singing for a half-second. It's hard to describe. It's not really a belch or a gasp for air, but it's impossible to sing through - I have to pause.

When I do that, it doesn't sound exactly like what Ed does, but it makes me wonder if there might some kind of something similar happening internally. Like he starts pushing, and some reflex kicks back, and that pause happens.

I was at the Greenville VS show last year, and I have to admit, he sounded way better that night than I ever imagined he could, and did those songs way better than I thought would have been possible for 2016 Ed.

Having said that, it was such an unexpected thing to see and such a perfect cap on my 25 year fandom that I wouldn't necessarily be upset if it was the last time I saw them live. At this point, I would far prefer to see another TOTD tour and/or album, especially if Jeff and Stone could convince themselves to write songs together again.

i've wondered this at times too ... or if it's him fighting the regurgitation of wealthy friends' semen

i think Eddie has lack of air when singing since 2008. During the years and tour has rise and fall for the tunes. summarizing all the thoughts, nowadays Eddie still has good form when he needs "shout" in the songs, heaviest parts still works.

The big problem is when he needs do melodies with his voice, in some time he could do whatever he wants and sound like angels (he could cover Madonna in 98 during daughter and it sound as heaven, every duet works like a charm ... etc) . At 2016 when he tries to do Angel (one of the most beautiful and harder melodies of his catalogue, it was really really embarrassing.
