Very generic. They did a great job of tearing out the fantasy elements that make it such a epic story. Luckily they replaced it with a run of the mill action movie with narrative beats you can see coming a mile away.

I saw a lot of the books in that trailer. The trailer's purpose isn't to convince the fans of the books to see the movie, it's to convince average action movie guy to see the movie. Chillax, RM.

Yeah, there's definitely a lot from various books. As we've been told from the beginning, this isn't a straight up adaptation of The Gunslinger. I'm trying to guess how this movie will end in such a way that satisfies the film for a lay-audience but also sets up a future franchise. And I think... I THINK I have a good guess on what they're going to do.

I'm basing my opinion on what we have seen. You know, evidence . How is that not a big assumption compared to thinking and/or hoping it was just a cut to attract a non reader which is based on - I don't know?

I'm not getting in the middle of this argument. But it stands to reason that the goal of all advertising is to appeal to a wide audience and attract customers. The Dark Tower has a built-in audience of book fans. Those people are largely going to see the movie regardless. It makes all the sense in the world to me that this trailer is cut to appeal to new fans more than book/constant fans.

That doesn't mean the movie won't be exactly what the trailer is showing. We just don't know yet. But there are countless examples of First Trailers to films that show a different tone/style/aesthetic than what is ultimately delivered in the final film.

We'll have to wait and see what the next trailer delivers. And then what the film is. I'm still super excited and I think given the fun easter eggs and references we got that the movie will still appeal to me as a longtime fan of the books. But I also expected/was hoping for something less generic looking. So, the trailer (just as a trailer on its own) is underwhelming overall to me.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.
