So... apparently, JJ wanted BB-8 to accompany Rey and Chewie in the Falcon on the way to meet Luke. But it was Rian Johnson who asked for changes in the script to make it R2 instead of BB-8.

That. Is. Fascinating.

I would think better than R2. He could at least roll over everything.

Makes me think JJ was focused on Rey, while Johnson was focused on Luke, makes sense.

Question I've wondered about a good while just got brought up on collider.

There is another.

We grew up thinking he was talking about Leia but they could easily retcon it to mean Rey.
Especially if they have Yoda force ghost in TLJ explaining to her and or luke that her coming was foretold.

I mean it doesn't make sense in a way that he'd say 'there is another' to Obi Wan. Obi wan knows there was two babies and one of them was destined to be a Jedi and one wasn't.

They talked about this on the SWM podcast way back when they were doing Empire; it never really struck me until then. I have to imagine that it was a placeholder until George thought of something cool.

Have you ever read the Dagobah scenes in the Leigh Brackett draft? They are weird.

You know what, though? I just read some of the Dagobah stuff in the Brackett draft, and it does mention Luke's sister. So even if it wasn't Leia at that point, that's what was probably intended.

However, Vader was not their father in her draft. That didn't come about until after Lucas's rewrite.

Maybe he knew Ezra was floating around out there somewhere.

This is true. Anikan's force ghost actually appears on Dagobah for Luke's graduation from Jedi school.

Well right now it could be Ezra Ahsoka or Rey

Would you guys be bummed if they retconned it?

(I think it's 0 possibility it's Ezra if they were to)

Not only would it not bother me, I'd actually prefer it. But only if they retcon it for Ahsoka. If that's what they're doing, then I'm 100% on board. If it's going to be for Rey or Ezra or anyone else, I think it's less interesting. Let it be for Leia if it's not for Ahsoka.
