Its amazing how much better the band sounds on that hbo stream versus the "HD" youtubes that came out after the show.

Re: HALL OF FAME!!!!!!
did they "touch up" mike's guitar flubs on given to fly for the broadcast? listen to the youtube clips.. he's either being sloppy or maybe a string was out of tune, but there are noticable gaffes in the quiet parts of the verses that i didn't notice in the broadcast. though i only watched the broadcast once so far..

yeah wtf, I watched GTF thinking it would be a trainwreck and it's absolutely fine.bodysnatcher wrote:I dunno guys. I won't hesitate to thrash on the band or a performance when necessary, but was Given To Fly really that bad of a rendition?? I have nothing to compare it to bc I rarely, if ever, listen to live shows. But I honestly didn't think it was that bad?? It was fast as fuck, obviously, but Ed didn't bother me at all in this performance, except for a handful of warbles. If i was tuning in with fresh eyes and not knowing much about PJ at all, I would think, "Man, those old guys kinda rock"
I think if you reach a point when you're complaining that a singer is adding too many "AAAAAAAs" in the third line on the second verse 2:15 minutes into the song, you just need to step back and stop listening to the music for a while.

agreed. i have a friend who is way into Phish. like, waayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy into Phish. we probably all know a guy like that. i laugh at him (and he laughs at himself) at some of the insane shit that comes out of his mouth about the band. little nuggets of info, critiques of particular performances, etc etc.
a while back I realized PJ fans are of the same ilk. just with fast-punky songs.

Really no idea what Mikejasonda is talking about. I'm as down on 2017 Ed as anybody but his performance isn't a complete disaster on any of those songs.

Re: HALL OF FAME!!!!!!
Mike Jasonda is obviously starved for attention....look at me, look at me......what a douche.
I actually attended the ceremony and the band and Eddie killed it. All three performances sounded great in person and the energy for their set was light years more than any other band being inducted. It wasn't even close. Sorry had to fact check this thread.

The HOF sounded fine to me. I've heard Ed sound better, but for current day Ed, it wasn't horrible. I just wish the speeches weren't cut up, but figured they would be.

Re: HALL OF FAME!!!!!!
Anyone see that stalker movie "Obsessed"? Yeah, that one with Beyonce and Ali Larter (I watch it cause I dig both of those ladies) - that's def what PJ fans become at some point. I dunno, I've never been the big bootleg collector (and of the boots I do have I rarely listen to them). I sort of like to keep my fandom pure. Once I'm going down the rabbit hole of critiquing mixes, demos, and varying mixes of demos and just RANTING about how I do or do not like a specific mix of a specific demo or that Ed's out of breath or sounds like he's phoning in that 1000th performance of Even Flow, I feel like I may be becoming Ali Larter (except not female and not hot) from Obsessed. And that Beyonce (whatever character she played) needs to come kick Ali's ass. What I'm saying is, sometimes it's just time to take a step back. Don't go to that extra show, don't download that lost demo or live cover, just wait until you feel a burning need.bodysnatcher wrote:lecherouslittlestump wrote:yeah wtf, I watched GTF thinking it would be a trainwreck and it's absolutely fine.bodysnatcher wrote:I dunno guys. Re: HALL OF FAME!!!!!!
This post is $$$$. Taking a step back for awhile was the best thing I could've done at the point I did. I was definitely letting outside noise influence my PJ experience and I had become burnt, jaded and hollow towards the band and the music. Looking back at it now, it was definitely a few of the "fans" that I allowed to make my trip suck.Tuolumne wrote:Anyone see that stalker movie "Obsessed"?
