I actually had one of the books and the CDR...I wonder whatever happened to that book. Or if it's even worth anything?

 All his albums are great, but this is his crowning achievement. There's a fun K Recs album by a guy called Karl Blau, "Beneath the Waves." It came out around the same time as The Glow pt 2, and it's totally different in that its songs are way more conventional, but it has a very similar sweetness about it. And then Mt Eerie (same as The Microphones) followups "Mt. Eerie" and "No Flashlight" are both also fantastic. I sort of fell off the Elverum train when he started tinkering with Black Metal. Some of that stuff had already started to appear on these aforementioned albums, but a whole record of it was too much for me.
agreed here, The Glow is just magnificent. I fell off the train too, but I appreciate that he's always experimenting with sound.

did you ever listen to Thanksgiving? I think he's in the same circle as Elverum and Blau

You know what? I saw a Thanksgiving show one time at Meow Meow in Portland, and I don't remember a thing about it other than we were all sitting on the floor while he strummed his guitar. Never listened to a record though.
:haha: sounds about right

it's nothing overly exciting or groundbreaking if you've already listened to Microphones and Blau, just another dude in that canon

I've only heard XXX and Atrocity Exhibition, and I'd say they're roughly equal. Both have some fantastic highlights, but are ultimately too long and too confined by old school hip-hop conventions for my taste.

Nothing new -- emo-core, slow-core, metalcore -- the suffix "-core" has long been shorthand for trendy made-up flavor-of-the-month genres that are characterized primarily by aesthetics rather than distinct musical traits. To be ignored.

i've been jamming on some Earthcore lately.

just field recordings of shifting magma, sampled over some ambient beats.

good stuff.
