In the future's most admired historian tome about this period, the Roger Stone chapter has a title like a hip hop record.

David Frum in the Atlantic:
This Is Not a Drill
The firing of FBI director James Comey poses a question: Will the law will answer to the president, or the president to the law?
Who can sincerely believe that President Trump fired FBI Director James Comey for any reason other than to thwart an investigation of serious crimes? Which crimes—and how serious—we can only guess.
The suggestion that Comey was fired to punish him for overzealously mishandling the Clinton email investigation appears laughable: Just this morning, Trump’s social media director Dan Scavino gleefully proposed to release video of Hillary Clinton’s concession call in order to hurt and humiliate her—and top Trump aide Kellyanne Conway laughed along with him.
No, this appears to be an attack on the integrity—not just of law enforcement—but of our defense against a foreign cyberattack on the processes of American democracy. The FBI was investigating the Trump campaign’s collusion with Russian espionage. Trump’s firing of Comey is an apparent attempt to shut that investigation down.

Re: The 45th POTUS - Donald J. Trump
On the other side of this, I have to take into consideration that I believe in James Comey. I think he is a true patriot, a rare thing in DC. I think he was put into a shitty situation by Lynch and Bill Clinton. He didn't handle it especially well, though. There was a lot of chicanery around the emails, including the revelation this week that his recent testimony included an exaggeration about Huma' s email forwards to Weiner. I can see why a President would think that Comey no longer has the confidence of the American people. There are probably a lot of people who do feel that way. This could be a reasonable action, if Comey wasn't the only person in DC who seems to be seriously investigating the Russia scandal. That colors the whole thing. Just troubling.

Re: The 45th POTUS - Donald J. Trump
I never bought that Comey released the info about the Clinton e-mails because he was in the tank for Trump; more likely that he believed what most others believed, that Hillary Clinton was going to win the election and if it came out afterwards they were reviewing new e-mails prior to the election he'd be going to Republican Congressional committee hearings till he was in a casket. He was always mushy-mouthed about why he made a big show of Clinton and not of the Trump investigation, but alas.
But yeah, this is nothing beyond a power grab. I can't imagine anyone actually believes he got fired because of how he handled the Clinton investigation.

Meanwhile, how perverse would it be if James Comey becomes both the person responsible for putting Trump in office and also removing Trump from office?
