So what's gonna happen when Euron runs into Sam and his horn in Oldtown?

It is a slow burn. And I like that. Perhaps, why it spoke to me so much on first read whereas it takes others a couple of reads and/or deep dives to appreciate. Especially coming off that action-packed, game-changing third book.

Yeah this is my third time through. I didn't hate it the first time around, but it was my least favorite of the series. It really upped it's game for me when I read it the second time through in the combined feast/dance.

But now, reading it again on its own, I absolutely love it.

I had that though after reading the Cersei chapter post-Ser Loras getting doused with boiling oil.

Not if the show is to be believed.

Tyrion will almost definitely be the volanqar on the show because he drinks and knows things.

No, Cersei is going to outlive her children.

The prophecies about the future must be the worst thing about the series. Makes it all seem a little cheaper, especially if it is Tyrion, in the way most see it.

However, I do think Azor Ahai is the exception. It was well thought out, and still in dispute.

On the other hand, I love secrets from the past being unravelled in various ways, like R+L=J, that is just brilliant.

The stuff covered in book 4 is far superior to the way that same material is presented in the show. With, perhaps, the obvious exception of that one Sand Snakes boobs. If you're one of those people that is obsessed with and riveted by that pair of breasts, you'll probably be disappointed in the book.
those were some excellent breasts

Good summary, but not much of a mystery (I don't think):

Still no release date for The Winds Of Winter. GRRM seems very busy with everything else. Will be weird if the tv show is finished before the last two books, and I started reading them in 2007.

It's all but certain at this point. I don't think it's weird at all. It's now the expectation. My only real question is whether George will both to write the last two books once the show's over. Maybe we'll get Winds before the series finale. MAYBE. But I'd almost put money on the book series remaining unfinished.

I think he'll finish them too. Would not surprise me if the last two books come out within two or three years from each other.
