It truly is a magical piece of music and one that I've always "known" (my parents were always playing Springsteen when I was growing up) so I don't have any memory of when I first heard it. But man, I am jealous of people who get to hear this song for their first time.

So I choose Thunder Road, for which I believe is the best song he's written.
God damnit. One of my faves.

I've always kinda liked it but then again I like some of those nostalgic type tunes. To me, there is a kind of corniness to it but I still really like it. As per the case with most of the Born in the USA album, I like the lyrics.

"Glory Days" is one of those songs that I can imagine being really disappointing if you were following Bruce's career as it was happening. But going back and discovering him with some understanding of "Born in the USA" being his "pop" album, knowing it was followed by something somewhat more emotional and serious, etc., gave it some balance and some context. Kind of like how it's easy to appreciate "Nashville Skyline" and "Self Portrait" when they're framed by "Blood on the Tracks" and "Desire," but in 1969-70 they signaled the end of Bob Dylan as many knew and loved him.

That's interesting, I think Born in the USA is my favorite album of his. That was my opinion before my recent / ongoing crash course, but I still think I feel that way.
