"Woody could not confirm media reports that Cornell had died of strangulation, although a different representative for the police told Variety that the singer was found with a “band” around his neck."

I think that's just ghoulish speculation, I'll be absolutely astonished if that ends up being true.

The police have stated they're currently investigating the incident as suicide, so it's a bit more than speculation at this point. But, of course, nothing is for sure yet.

Those pics are pretty awesome considering. Thanks for sharing.

And thanks to Sgt. Crackpot for the thread.

It's nice to be able to come here and just read everyone's thoughts.

Utterly fucking devastated.

Being reported that is wife called the hotel for someone to check on him. Seems she had cause for concern.

Something like a heart attack or even accidental drug overdose would have been one thing but the possibility of suicide adds an extra sting.

Where exactly are people getting these developments at? All I found was shitty clickbait from that Detroit news website as far as the suicide speculation goes.

Surely not suicide, I'm guessing something so sudden would've been an aortic aneurysm. This really sucks.

One report says strangulation - found with some sort of "band" around the neck. Another says an OD, possible accidental OD.

Not fact yet.

BBC tends to be fairly reliable and doesn't sensationalise.

Increasingly looks like suicide.

From TMZ:

5:34 AM PT -- TMZ has confirmed with police the family friend had to force his way into Cornell's room and found him with a band around his neck. We're told there was no blood, and police suspect suicide based on the scene.

5:05 AM PT -- A report from Detroit's WXYZ says Cornell's body was discovered on the bathroom floor of his hotel room at MGM Grand Detroit after a show Wednesday night. Cornell's wife allegedly called a family friend to check on the singer ... and police are saying it appears Cornell died from an apparent suicide.

WTF?!

Jesus...

Is Eddie Vedder the last surviving big Grunge singer? When I think of the big grunge bands I think of alice in chains, stone temple pilots, soundgarden, nirvana, and pearl jam....

That was the 90s! How are they all gone

Had the radio on a few minutes ago, and they played a live version of him covering Marley's Redemption Song with his daughter sharing the vocals. Just gutting. I can't imagine what his family is going through right now.

Fuck. I'll never get to see a Soundgarden show now... I saw him solo twice and caught TotD. I remember just the other day thinking how much he has been performing and how awesome that was, and that I had to figure out a way to get to a show on this tour. The Temple show last year just blew me away.

Strength for his family right now... RIP
