Haven't been logged into the forum in quite some time--was surprised to find my login still worked. Just wanted to drop by and pass out some
virtual hugs to all the people who I know are reeling today. It feels lonely to think of the ever-growing hole in the scene that played behind so
much of my life.
To everyone who feels lost, or low, or lonely, or confused, or heartbroken, or all of the above--know that I'm feeling that way too. It is a painful
way to be reminded of what matters.
This is a story from ed- Ed was having a party in his house. All the soundgarden lads QOTSA etc etc all at the party.
There's a ukulele in the corner. Eds making the ukulele record at the time. All night chris is staring at the uke like just giving it this disdainful I dunno wtf seriously kinda look.
Ed eventually talks to him and tells him he's making a uke record but it's impossible to find a sad chord on that instrument. Just can't be done.
Chris goes 'challenge accepted'
Hours n hours later. Everyone asleep on the floor etc. Chris is still out on the balcony wrestling with the uke and eds with him and just like 'it can't be done. There are no sad chords in that instrument'
To those who are surprised there were no signs and don't understand it, I'm glad. I've been stupidly close to suicide twice and no one had an idea. If they did, they would have tried to help. I shared this with a really good friend once and he asked why I never said anything. I tried to explain it's next to impossible to share what you know is irrational. So it makes me very happy how many of you don't understand, 'cause I do and it sort of sucks.
I read an interview with Chris and he was talking about how no one knew the drinking problem he had and how that surprised him. He said the song Burden In My Hand was about his relationship with alcohol. Sometimes even when someone is telling you the truth we just don't hear it because it doesn't match with the person we know.
Glad I saw him on his acoustic tours. Always felt Chris and an acoustic guitar were him at his truest self.
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

Chris smashed up the uke.
I've read a different but somewhat similar version of story.
Ed was hanging with Chris and Chris told Ed that it's impossible to write a depressing song on a ukulele. Ed says challenge accepted and wrote Soon Forget.

I
Wouldn't be be like ed to adapt a story to fit. The version above was told in Seattle though end of the first uke tour.
So according to this article, a band member, along with MGM security, broke into the locked room and found Cornell dead with a belt around his neck.
Detroit police spokesman Micheal Woody would not confirm any details, but said “basic things” discovered at the scene led investigators immediately to suspect suicide.
I really do wonder if he left a note.
Damn, I can't imagine Matt, Ben, or Kim finding Chris dead.
There have been a lot of musician deaths during my lifetime but this one and Weiland have hit the hardest, this one perhaps even more so just because it came as so much more of a shock. I always feel a vague twinge of sadness when a musician whose music means something to me passes away, but these guys who were there as I was really discovering the art form -- I dunno, it's like someone came into my house with a big stick of dynamite and blew out the foundation. Now how's the thing supposed to stand? This would become the music against which all other music would be measured -- not in a raw quality sense, necessarily, an "is this as good as that?" thing, but rather "does it take me to the kinds of far-flung places that I know this stuff can take me? does it tell me something about the world that I don't already know? does this music tell some part of my story?" So much of how my brain processes music is built on this stuff -- on Nirvana, on STP, on Soundgarden. Of course we still have the music, thank goodness. But there's just something that happens when the living, breathing spirit behind the work ceases to exist. It's not easy to explain, and is probably not practical. But I think it's nonetheless sincere and speaks to the idea of art as a sort of connective fiber between people who have never met. No question Chris Cornell impacted my life in a profound way. I wish he could have found the strength.

do you get paid for your shameless unending promotion of your cousin and his band, dj?
Well no. If I was gonna do that I'd have gone on about chris coming to loads of glens shows and having a great relationship with him.
Just my only real world connection to the guy outside the music. And I thought it was a cool photo.
