Re: RIP Chris Cornell 1964 - 2017
There's still a part of me hoping when I check in on this that it's all revealed to be some cruel Internet hoax. I'm still crushed by this.
I tried listening to some Soundgarden last night, but it was too hard

Seriously I legit think this is better than any individual Soundgarden or Rage Against the Machine song....and an amazing video to boot.
Chris sounds SO GOOD on it. I don't love his high register he uses in Soundgarden, but when he sings lower he sounds great.
To be fair I do like Fell on Black Days but that's probably the most Audioslave-esque of all the famous Soundgarden songs.
Anyways, this song is great
Edit: Solo at 2:53 is amazing

Outside of the hits and a handful of others, I'm not a huge Soundgarden fan. Tried listening to their albums last night and it was a chore.

While I don't feel they ever once topped the greatness of SG or RATM, this was a great video and song. Cornell's harmonic howls during the second verse have always been my favorite part of the song (and possibly my favorite piece of Out Of Exile). And yeah this was probably Tom's best solo on the album--he butchered quite a few of the songs on OOE but this one they all nailed perfectly.mikejasond wrote:Seriously I legit think this is better than any individual Soundgarden or Rage Against the Machine song....and an amazing video to boot.

And holy crap has anyone listened to the Singles Soundtrack re-release yet (sad coincidence that it came out today)?? Anyway, the unreleased CC track, Ferry Boat #3, on the second disc is an amazing little tune. Never heard it before and it's almost beautiful sad (if that makes sense) to hear a CC song for the first time knowing that he's no longer with us. Like a fitting personal send off. Goddamn what a rough couple of days...if I had a link I would post it but I suggest you all go do yourself a favor and seek it out.

It's a shame they broke up. When Out Of Exile came up, the band kept saying how much they enjoyed making the album and how quickly they wrote the songs. Then a year later they release Revelations, didn't tour for it, apparently got session players in without Cornell's knowledge, then split. While I don't feel they ever once topped the greatness of SG or RATM, this was a great video and song. So glad they managed at least one performance earlier this year.

Yeah it was great to see there was no bad blood between Chris and the other members. In fact, what with the Soundgarden tour and the TOTD he had wrapped things up very nicely. It's almost scarily neat.
FWIW I think that Audioslave's debut has aged really well. Sounds better now than it did when released. I was listening to it a lot a year or so ago and it resonated with me more than ever. An absolute banger from beginning to end.

that's also the top item on the main page of the official site, with the heading Chris. I guess there aren't words yet.
Oddly enough, that's maybe been the most moving thing I've seen yet.

I had somehow completely forgotten about this song. For whatever reason, I haven't listened to Audioslave in a very long time - I just checked and they're not even in my library. What a song. I suppose I should thank mikejasonda for all you do!PHATJ wrote:I had forgotten how great of a song this is. That was fun to hear.
