I dont really get the ¨this is american¨ thing, but i also dont get the praise. I thought it was the worst film i saw this year by far.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I'm saying it's dealing with themes that tap into the American cultural and historical experience. It's an American zeitgeist film. If you're not American, you may not feel and/or interpret the film and what it's communicating in the same way. Without fulling understanding where this country is at right now and what historical events lead us to this point, I can understand how the movie might not register or fall flat at times.

And, yeah, trag, it is brilliant. In every sense of the word. The themes, the concepts, the music, the tone, the humor, the horror, the plot and the full breadth of what Peele is communicating is pitch perfect. The movie hangs together completely. I can't stop thinking about it, even months later. It's equally intelligent, artful, humorous, and creepy. It achieves every thing it sets out to achieve and it does so with confidence and panache. It's a fucking brilliant movie.

We're the Millers is entertaining enough. Probably my favorite Ed Helms character to date.

I dont agree, pretty much with everything you wrote in this post. Im still glad you liked it, but i feel its more a hyped product than a good movie...social thriller? Craven did it better with The People Under the Stairs.

It's one of the safest, blandest movies I've ever seen. It takes zero risks and does nothing interesting. I feel like I've seen this same movie a hundred times before.
