Are we expecting more behind these 18 episodes, or is this pretty much the wrap up of the saga? Haven't paid any attention to news or confirmed rumors regarding this Showtime deal.

Sherilyn Fenn claims that Lynch told her on set that if the show is well-received he would consider doing more. Regardless, I think this season is meant to tie-up loose ends. However, it's doing crazy big business for Showtime, so it would be stupid for them to not offer him all the money in the world to do more.

Originally, he said it was done after this. But both Lynch and Frost have said in many, many interviews since that while they don't, at this point, expect any more from the series, they are always open and listening and that the idea rules all. So, expect that this is it. But don't be surprised if it isn't.

I've watched 3 and 4 now.

I found 4 the (and, bear in mind, this is all relative) least enjoyable so far. I was absolutely gripped to the TV during 1, 2 and 3, a bit less so on 4. I'm finding Andy and Lucy a bit much and the Duchovny scene a little bit flat, bordering on fan-servicey. Probably one of those episodes that makes more sense when seen as part of a greater whole, a getting from point A to point B thing.

I loved the Denise/Cole scene. It didn't feel like fan service to me at all. It felt necessary and revealing. I love Lynch's consistent exploration of the double, of the divided self. It was fascinating to see that also applies to Cole and that a character like Denise (a transgender person who has lived as both a man and woman -- again, the duality explored isn't lost) is the one to call him out on it. We now know that not only is Cole a champion of human rights but he's also a bit of a cad in that he has a history of being, perhaps, inappropriate with young females. That's fascinating and again plays into the duality present in everyone. Especially if you live in Lynch-Land.

[Simple Torture]

I watched the two-part premiere last night and quickly realized how much of the series' original lore I had forgotten. I remembered Dale, Bob, Laura, Hawk, the other cops, and most of the locations, but suddenly I was like, "Oh, yeah, the one-armed man" (for a few things). Overall, I was pretty into it--I'll be catching up over the course of this week and I'm very intrigued with the glass box and the librarian murder.

I re-watched part 1 last night. It was much easier to get a grip on now that the initial rush of fanboy glee has passed.

-I wasn't a huge fan of the Ben and Jerry scene. Ben played his part great, but Jerry's the only character so far who has felt like a caricature of his old self. On one hand, it makes perfect sense that he'd be cashing in on legal THC, but on the other hand it all felt a little too much.

-With all that's been going on during these four parts, I'm loving whatever is going on with Dr. Jacoby and those shovels. Lots of long distance shots in this mini series, and that scene in the woods with the shovel delivery was a great example. Such weird voyeurism we're privy to here.

-The scene where a faceless figure emerges in the glass box scares the shit out of me. I think When I first saw it I remarked to Durden about how much it reminds me of the dumpster scene in Mulholland Drive. Lynch builds up this moment of intense suspense and fear for you before showing you something that will haunt your dreams. The lack of context or recognition of what you're looking at seals the deal.

-After now meeting (and loving) Wally Brando, I get an even bigger kick out of Lucy and Andy's reaction when Hawk brings up the missing Agent Cooper. Their biggest concern with Cooper's whereabouts in the first episode seem to be that he hasn't even had a chance to meet 24 year old Wally yet. Bless their hearts.

-Upon re-watching, I already forgot about that creepy as fuck scene with Doppelganger Cooper and the backwoods yokels. Is that moonshine distilled from fingerling potatoes? Durden/ST/anyone else get a Shit Town vibe from that scene?

Someone made a connection with the junkie "1-1-9" and the card dirty cooper was holding. You can see a deck of cards on her table and a safety pin which looks like it was used to scribble on the card. Could be nothing.

I can understand this. But I really loved that scene. I loved that these two brothers who used to be such clear and consistent partners in crime have now evolved beyond their previous relationship. In just one scene, we see how strained their relationship has become. They even sit perpendicular to each other. They are no longer on parallel tracks.

The deconstruction of how times have changed and how technology and America has evolved over these past 20-plus years was also really fun to watch and poignant. I love Jerry's comment about how the business they used to be in illegally now brings in far more profits for them than their longstanding traditional hotel business does. So much commentary about the world moving on and how some will be left behind by not adjusting. I thought it was masterful.

Though, I was sad to see Ben has seemingly given up on his carrot fetish.

Speaking of evolved technology, it will be interesting to see how Lynch shows characters using all of the tech that we're so familiar with. Did anyone else notice how comically large that phone was that Hank was using in that hilarious scene about gaining access to Ruth's apartment? I could be reaching here, but the size of that thing felt like pure Lynch to me.

There may be too much of “True Detective” and other hard-boiled kill-dramas in the journey of Evil Cooper, which culminates in his murdering his lingerie-clad partner (Nicole LaLiberté) in bed.

Of course, it’s ridiculous to suggest that “Twin Peaks” is borrowing these elements so much as borrowing them back.

I totally agree. Also, Lucy's reaction to cell phones. I fucking LOVE that stuff. You almost thing that Cooper would have come up and out of a telephone wire instead of a wall socket if this had happened 25 years ago.

There may be too much of “True Detective” and other hard-boiled kill-dramas in the journey of Evil Cooper, which culminates in his murdering his lingerie-clad partner (Nicole LaLiberté) in bed.

Of course, it’s ridiculous to suggest that “Twin Peaks” is borrowing these elements so much as borrowing them back.

Probably exactly what The Chromatics were thinking when they got picked to play over the credits of the premiere. Classic case of who influenced who? Loving these ending credit music cameos a lot, by the way. Was anyone already familiar with the Cactus Blossoms?

So far this has been my first introduction to all of the bands. Lynch has great taste in music.

I called up my mom today to talk about last night's episodes. We were talking about how great the bands at the Bang Bang Bar have been. I mentioned how I assume that Eddie Vedder and Trent Reznor will all be performers at the bar at some point because I can't imagine them having actual roles in the show. She responded with, "How could Eddie remember lines when he can't even remember the lyrics to his own songs?"
