I've read six of Morrison's books so far and I've enjoyed all of them. She's a brilliant writer. But Beloved is my favorite book of all time. It's absolutely breath-taking. It's a right at the top of human artistic achievement.

Song of Solomon is also a really great book, though. You honestly can't go wrong with either. If you're feeling that one, then totally go with your gut.

Started The Tailor of Panama this morning and I don't know what I expected, to tell you the truth. I thought it was a spy book (based on what I remember of seeing commercials for the movie) but apparently it's a comedy/satire? Maybe it's more evident further into the book?

i have ttop book lying around here somewhere- i think i read a few chapters...the movie isn't your traditional spy work, but yeah there are comedy/satire elements present...actually mostly satire

I think her work is full of sentiment and power and magic and is appealing and unpredictable and often playful.

Take that for what it's worth.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

heck yeah. glad to hear it holds up for adults, i haven't read it since i was like 14.

I read IT a few years ago and I wasn't particularly scared by it. The book actually felt really bloated and meandering to me. But I'm glad it's working on VG. I wish I'd had that experience.
