Re: The Beautiful Game (The All Inclusive Soccer Thread)
Klinsmann has these guys going in such an awesome direction. We're playing exciting, attacking soccer, and playing the ball out of the back. I thought it would be years before I could say that. Granted we haven't played any solid teams of late but still 6 goals in a game is huge.
I really think winning those World Cup Qualifying matches without Donovan has done wonders for the teams chemistry. You just can't overlook how positive it has to be see that even the best player is not given special treatment.
Our midfield is simply bossing games and man, I really hope Holden can keep his legs under him. He could be huge next summer. Kind of getting excited.
Looks like Klinsmann knew what he was doing after all.

It's amazing, in a month I've gone from thinking Klinsmann was the worst manager we've had since Steve Sampson to thinking he's the greatest thing to ever happen to US Soccer.

Agreed, I'm a lot more hopeful now. I'd like to see them play in a game against a team with a very strong midfield and defense and see them play really well before I get too excited, but It's looking a lot better now.numbers wrote:It's amazing, in a month I've gone from thinking Klinsmann was the worst manager we've had since Steve Sampson to thinking he's the greatest thing to ever happen to US Soccer.

well, I know Germany didnt bring close to their A squad to that game in May, but I thought that was a decent enough test for them and they looked good.Electromatic wrote:Agreed, I'm a lot more hopeful now. Wondo is playing himself onto the World Cup roster. I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not.

I dont think it's any worse than when Herculez Gomez and Buddle were playing themselves into the last WC.

Gomez seems to be playing his way off the plane to Brazil, and I do think Wondo has more of an instinct for goal than Herc does. Luckily we have much more depth than in 2010 (Robbie Findley started in the WC
)
Another guy who hurt his stock today? Brek Shea, who played just about the worst half of soccer I have ever seen.

Clark, another example of a guy who is miles away from the quality we will start at almost every position in Brazil. I only really remember Clark's horrid defensive play that led to the Ghana goal, but Shea literally did everything wrong today for 45 minutes. It was shocking.

It was pretty painful watching Shea. It was like he knew he was playing himself off the team, which made him play even worse.verb_to_trust wrote:Gomez seems to be playing his way off the plane to Brazil, and I do think Wondo has more of an instinct for goal than Herc does. There were times during the 2010 cycle that we were starting guys that hadnt played a minute for their clubs in 6 months.verb_to_trust wrote:Clark, another example of a guy who is miles away from the quality we will start at almost every position in Brazil. Clark was atrocious in that Ghana game, I think he got subbed off in like the 30th minute.

Yep, it was the worse display of soccer from a player I've ever seen. Clark tried to nutmeg a Ghana player, failed miserably and promptly turned it over which lead directly to a goal. Just pathetic.

Klinsmann is certainly more entertaining on the sidelines than Bradley.
